Yeoman Snow Shovel Steel 18" W

Nice, sturdy, STEEL snow shovel!
Look no further....This shovel isn't junk, like 99% of the aluminum units out there costing as much, or more. Most aluminum shovels are borderline garbage these days due to the overall quality of the metal, as well as the metal's thickness. Yes, they are MUCH lighter than a steel shovel, but that's because they are VERY thin and relatively have low rigidity. Unless every surface you intend to shovel is smooth, seamless concrete you should consider going with steel. When you invariably hit that concrete step, asphalt to sidewalk seam, or just happen to be strong enough to lift heavy, wet snow, you need a shovel that won't look like it was gnawed on by Great White after the first day. Most (if not all) aluminum shovels have an additional heavier quage strip along the scraping edge to prevent warpage these days. But even with that, all it takes is a strong shoveler to render that strip ineffective once the shovel hits a snag and the entire blade tweaks. This particular shovel is holding up very, very well so far this year. Yes, it's heavier in weight. But not so much that it becomes prohibitevely heavy if I take reasonable amounts each time I lift. If you are very strong the shovel can take the strain of repeated and prolonged lifting of wetter, heavier, snow. I am fit and have no issues with it. If you are an older person, have back issues, or are just on the weaker side, a high quality (ie.. EXPENSIVE) aluminum shovel may be more suitable for you. Or you might consider hiring the kids to handle it.Definitely HEAVY DUTY at a bargain price.FYI....I did do some research on the manufacturer. They are located in the USA (Midwest), but nowhere on their website (or on the shovel itself) does it say Made in the USA. The "factory" is in the US and they have been around since before WWII but I think the "factory" (for lack of a better term) would be more accurately described as an "assembly facility with foreign sourced parts/materials." Even so, the materials are decent quality and so is this shovel. Remember, it's steel so don't forget to rinse and clean if any salt is being used and repaint (use primer!) any areas where the paint gets scraped off. Do that and it should go the distance for you.

A solid shovel
I've been looking for a solid steel shovel for a while, and this fits the bill exactly. It was a bit more costly than I wanted to spend, but I'm hoping it's worth it. It's not the lightest shovel, and it's not meant for removing a lot of snow at once - it's too heavy - but it doesn't bend, warp, and won't crack like a cheap plastic shovel. And the yellow color is great to find when you toss it aside.

Ready for snow
A solid piece of equipment and although it is too early for snow season, I can comment on the weight and putting this together.1. It is a moderately heavy shovel, so if you are not used to flexing those muscles when picking up snow, you better start preparing now.2. It was a bit of a struggle for me to get the wood stick into the metal shovel part (located in the back). That being said, once it got in there there is no way it's coming out.I have high expectations for this and hopefully we won't get hit with a lot of snow but if we do, I will be ready!!

Excellent, heavy shovel
We got nailed with 31 inches of snow overnight. My husband was forced to stay at his office for two nights, while I tried to dig out enough of a path that our dogs could go out. I had a plastic shovel that was better than nothing, but not by much, and after a couple hours of having to judge just how much snow it could handle in a scoop, I vowed to get a real shovel (and a snowblower next year). After reading reviews for this, it seemed the way to go--and it was. The blade is all steel (not just a strip), and it breaks through the hard, heavy snow. Ladies, this is a heavy shovel, and you will need breaks, but ultimately it's easier than taking three times as long using a plastic shovel.

Like some of the other reviews have said the shovel ...
This is just what I needed here in the DC Metro area. The all steel blade breaks through the ice and "hard snow" and doesn't stick when you try to throw it off. Like some of the other reviews have said the shovel is a little heavy for all day use, but you get what you pay for 100% steel will outlast any plastic shovel with a metal tip. I am very satisfied with this shovel and can't imagine I will need another one for years, but when (if) I do I will be getting another one.

Right tool for driveway snow
Works great. You have to drill and install a second screw through shovel metal and into wood handle, though.

The MBTA could have used these in 2015
I lost all my shovels to the infamous winter of 2015. So I was on the look-out for high quality replacements. I also needed something that could handle the tough packed frozen mess that tends to accumulate on walkways and often left by plows around my car. This shovel is solidly built, strong, and slices through the tough areas. It's lighter than I expected and easy to handle. Must have for anyone in the snow belt.

... much use out of this shovel since it looks like winter is already over here in NC
Probably won't get much use out of this shovel since it looks like winter is already over here in NC. However, it performed wonderfully for the one snow we did have. It is very well made with sturdy steel. The scoop size was just right--not too large and not too small. I was able to lift a full scoop without any problem. (I'm a 5'4", 62 year old female of average health.) And I love the cheery yellow color.
