Individual Software Family Tree Heritage Platinum 9

For the price this program is great! Its very easy to use...I had it up and running within minutes. Adding information is simple and very similar to a previous program I had. I was also happy with Amazon's return service on this product. The first disc arrived damaged and would not work. I followed the prompts for a return, printed a receipt, took it to a local Kohl's for drop off (no box or postage needed) and had a replacement copy within days. Happy with this experience overall.

It did not have all the styles that an older program i had did

For the price, this is a good basic genealogy program for beginners. It is easy to set up and it is inexpensive and requires little space on my PC. This program doesn't have all the features of Family Tree Maker but, it does all that is needed to compile and organize family history information for those starting out plus, it has the charts family historians are looking for.

The description of this software implied that transfer of Ancestry's Family Tree data would be seamless. It wasn't. The transfer was finally accomplished by exporting to a GEDCOM file and importing into FTH software. That, in itself, wasn't so terrible, but I then discovered that a massive part of the data was not imported. The log of these omissions is 45 pages long! When I contacted Support regarding this, they suggested that I use "search and replace" to re-enter the information. That will take a while. I will probably still use the software for research purposes since I really like the LDS sources; however, Ancestry recently announced that they have handed over the reins of software maintenance and development to other companies, so I will probably continue its use. In the end, I was disappointed that "ease of data transfer" wasn't more honestly described. GEDCOM is a common data transfer medium for family tree software so there was no magic solution.

I have working with my genealogy for 8 years now. Initially used Family Tree Maker. That was an excellent product, user friendly had a limited free use of Ancestry.com. Unfortunately it is no longer available and I lost my data on my computer. Bought this product to reestablish my computer access. It is the worst program I have ever worked with. A total waste of money. If it had been my first attempt I would have quit.

My wife got me hooked on Family Trees since she has Ancestry subscription. This program linked to the Free Family Tree of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, which has a lot of great information. Program loaded fine and started typing in my name and went from there. Program states you need a serial number from the cd sleeve, which was missing. Went to Family Tree Heritage support and they supplied me with the serial number, which it turns out, if you have the cd, you don't need the serial number. Lots of fun finding relatives. This program also will print out all sorts of reports so you can visualize your line. (I didn't know my grandfather was born in Ireland.) You will find that in any ancestry search that you will be paying along the line for information, so be prepared for that. This is not a fault of this software! Have a good time seeing how far back you can go and find out what your relatives did for a living!

Having difficulty building family tree. If you make a mistake can delete just that part. I’m very disappointed in this product.

I use this all the time along with FamilySearch.org on line. I have found over a thousand ancestors on FamilySearch.org on line and downloaded them into the program. Family Search on line is free to use also. I have created my tree in familysearch.org and in this program together. The problem I run into is this program will duplicate names and get them messed up a lot but have figured out how to find and correct the duplication's, that's why the 4 stars. I find my ancestors on line and make the tree, then download the tree to this program.

Directions were not always helpful. Was not able to make corrections to errors. Still trying to learn how to use it.
