Yes, ridges should go away when you remove the backing & smoothe the paper onto a surface. Also, a wallpaper smoother is only a few $ on Amazon & REALLY helps with removing imperfections.

Q: Does this leave residue on hard non-porous surfaces when it is removed?

It may leave some stickiness. You can easily remove the adhesive by using some goo gone.

Q: Can you match up the pattern enough to cover a 10x12 wall?

I think so, I used it in my kitchen cabinets & it matched up really well where I had to splice it.
