This is the perfect book to address emotional side of Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Stapleton does a really good job explaining this.

Still blames the obese person- no genetic information to help people understand why they are the way they are- just blame!
This book has several things 'wrong' with it - and I won't even go her whole God section- She, as well as many ignorant people, are still blaming the obese person for all the behavioral issue, assuming they are all emotionally based. Totally ignoring the true biological bases for the behavior- People need to know, yes you need to alter your patterns to sustain weight loss, but knowing WHY of it makes it so so much easier to get over the 'idea' we are too emotional which has been shoved at us our whole lives- in that we ONLY overeat for emotional reasons- THAT IS JUST NOT TRUE! I hope Ms Stapleton opens her eyes to science- most obese people have gene stacks with genetic 'programming' that causes them to overeat- Again yes we must change behavior - but we (as a society) need to quit with the idea that the obese a just weak-willed with emotional issues.Knowing my genetic issues vastly helped my self-esteem and ability to make healthier choices in life- and ultimately to make a choice to get RNY gastric bypass because I came to know- no matter what, I was programmed to binge eat, crave high-fat food, have a slower metabolism etc- the emotional issues come from all the crap I've had to deal with from the ignorance of people in general- Ms Stapleton would do well to suggest all overweight people get their genetics done and fully understand what is really going on in their bodies.I've studied the genetics of obesity now seriously for 2 years- there is a lot of info on pub med for free- and with the following, I stood no chance of NOT being obese- now instead of being ashamed I'm proud I'm only a BMI of 30- and not 50 through all my life long hard work....Shame is a terrible thing to bare ones whole lifeDRD2,COMT,ANKK1, ADRB2, ABCB1, FTO, SHB1, FABP2,MTHFR etc...oh and also the rare and 100% guarantee mutation of MC4R-

The complete picture
The book was written in kind of a less serious attitude. This is a very serious issue. I did find it helpful though.
