Can this be used safely in a large tent (4 person) with good ventilation?

Definitely not! ! Even if you have a chimney approved vented tent and some kind of devised smoke chamber and chimney, this would not be air tight enough. You cannot adequately control combustion air (fresh air) or combustion gases (volatile combustion gases and smoke). Don't even try it in a tent vestibule.

Is there a connector needed to use gas or butane for fuel?

Anyone having issues with the ash tray?

Please flip it over and locate two brackets on the bottom, and not the slit below the door. That slit is smaller than the so-called ash tray it took me a while to discover that it wasn’t supposed to go through the slit right below the drop door. Good luck!

Can I remove the residual plastic left behind in between the metal folds and under the rivets by firing the stove?

I would advise against it. Manually and tediously remove the film prior to firing up...unless you enjoy seeing the gunk marring the bright, polished finish...
