Excellent and Insightful read
What an excellent read. It really explains a lot of the financial issues that have happened to expats globally and the pitfalls many face. He breaks them down in a simple manner and explains them with simple and sometimes humorous analogies. If you arr an expat, this is a must have for financial investment/saving money. It is the first book i have read that motivated me to implement changes to my life financially. Highly recommended.

The most beneficial book I have ever read!
Just did not expect a financial book to be so incredibly interesting and humorous, it was such a great read, I could not put the book down. The most important thing was that it actually changed my entire outlook, it educated me, it made me act positively towards my financial future and I would not be surprised if in a few years I can actually say due to this book, it has changed my life!

Great read for any investor
A great read for anybody from any nationality who is into investing in ANY asset class. Great insights into the pitfalls of investors who put money into actively managed funds... I wish I had got hands on this 20 years ago 😔

Game changer
I do not work in finance nor do I followed such a cursus. And I was gladly pleased while reading this book! Valuable lessons for expats, but not only. Everyone should read this book and get the most of it. It personally teached me I was doing the exact wrong things (I am fitting several of the "bad" examples in there) for the past 5 years. Time to turn the table.

Read. This. Book.
Not knowing anything about investment, other than I should be...and wasn't, this book was a total game-changer. I'd heard horror stories about expats like me being swindled out of their savings by "sharks in suits" (via non-stop cold-calling etc) but couldn't find any credible information to help me figure out an alternative. As a result, I wasn't saving or investing as I should have been, as I was scared of being ripped off. Until I read this book. It's written in such a way that makes a complicated subject seem really rather simple. And once you've read the book, you'll discover that sensible investing as an expat IS SIMPLE! I now know what I need to do in order to secure my financial future and not let so-called financial advisors take a significant portion of my hard-earned money through high costs and commissions. Don't delay. Read. This. Book.

life changing enlightenment
I always thought that investing was for people with lots of money and fat paycheck and not for an ordinary person like me. I am not a numbers person nor I studied finance. I could never imagine that I would be able to read and understand stock exchange data. My vision would blur with one glimpse on all those numbers in red in green! However, it all changed while I was reading Millionaire Teacher and Millionaire Expat of Andrew Hallam. Of course it took me a while to get out of analysis paralysis situation but I am confident now that I can invest on my own and know how to find info and support if ever in doubt. These 2 books are life changing enlightenment!!

The guy who wrote this book was a teacher in Singapore and also wrote a book on financial planning for teachers. This book expands the net to all expats. He lists the issues with listening to/trusting financial advisers and provides a good rough guide to how to look at investing and planning for retirement. Of particular interest are chapters directed to people from specific countries (e.g. US, UK, AU, CA etc), which are useful at highlighting specific issues that apply to people from each country. All in all, a good read for those staring to think about financial planning for themselves.

This book really would be great for a novice, hence my 4 star rating. That being said, anyone with moderate knowledge on investing can pass. I was really hoping for more. Heres 400 pages condensed: -Index Funds Good, individual stocks & managed funds Bad -Dont get scammed by financial advisors. If it sounds too good to be true, it definitely is. -Dont invest in offshore pensions. -Buy & hold. If the market tanks, DO NOT sell. In fact, if you can, buy more. -Dont try to time the market. Those who do (even professionals) almost surely will underperform those who dont look at their investments -Invest in a balanced portfolio favoring your home country, including bonds and global indexes. Only worry about rebalancing once a year. (or if you're like me you do the calcualtions each quarter when you make a purchase). -Pay close attention to fees/expense ratios. -Save your money. Apparently too many (American) expats live the life of luxury and don't have a solid plan for retirement. -Use the 4% rule for retirement I was particularlly disappointed that there wasnt much advise on how to minimize taxes. The book did include a very important warning not to contribute to an IRA if you do not have income above FEIE limits, which is good advice that's not always known to American expats. Oh, the advice on funds is out of date. Many of the index funds suggested in the balanced portfolios described in the book are no longer open to new customers (e.g VTSMX, VGTSX, etc). Its not to say the portfolios arent good ones - they are - you just need to figure out which to replace with.
