Q: how many brackets do i get for the 23.00? how much weight can they hold? why do companies offer hype but no usefull information?

As the listing says this is for a SINGLE wall mount, there is also a TWIN pack offered. The mount is for the PLAY 1 so they can hold the weight of the PLAY 1 i.e. 1.85kg (4.08 lb)

Q: Does it work with batteries

It’s a Wall Mount it doesn’t need batteries or power. It just hangs there.

Q: Does the bracket install over a US size wallplate? I've installed an inset outlet to power the speaker and want the bracket to mount directly onto it.

There are two holes used to mount this bracket to a wall. The distance between the holes is less than the distance between the holes in an outlet box. Unless you are drilling new holes in the wall plate through which you can install bolts/nuts to attach the bracket to the wall plate, you won't be able to use this bracket.

Q: Are they battery operated

The mount requires no batteries. The Sonos speaker itself requires an outlet to plug it in. In my new house I installed an outlet where I wanted the speakers and mounted the speaker right next to it.
