The Last Threshold: Legend of Drizzt: Neverwinter Saga, Book 4

An Stunning Conclusion to the Neverwinter Saga
The Last Threshold is the newest novel in R. A. Salvatore's Drizzt series. So much has happened in these novels since Salvatore first introduced Drizzt and his companions. In The Ghost King and Gauntlgrym Drizzt lost his companions of many years. Over the last two novels he has built up a new group of friends. At the end of Charon's Claw Dahlia had her revenge against Herzgo Alegni. She was struck by an even more profound discovery. The misshapen tiefling wizard Effron is the son that she thought she killed by throwing him off a cliff as a baby. Artemis Entreri thought that the destruction of Charon's Claw would end in his death. It did not. Now these two join Drizzt on a new journey. Neither have any real place to go. Joining them is Ambergris, the dwarven cleric who had embedded herself as a spy in the Shadovar mercenary team Cavus Dun. She has brought with her another refugee from the mercenary band, a young monk named Afafrenfere.Drizzt decides to give the group a purpose, so he travels to the city of Port Llast which is under attack from evil sea creatures. Will Drizzt be able to reform this ragtag group? Most of these companions have only lived for themselves and have been killers and thieves. To secure the safety of Port Llast Drizzt will have to work with the Ship Lords of Luskan. There are many more wheels turning in this story. Tiago Baenre seeks to kill Drizzt to cement his own fame. Drayo Quick has taken Guenhwyvar prisoner and is now able to spy on Drizzt and his companions through her eyes. Effron wants to track down Dahlia and make her pay for what she did to him. Wound up in all of this is the drow mercenary band Bregan D'aerthe. The Last Threshold nicely wraps up the Neverwinter Saga with a lot of surprises and some beautiful story telling. The end of the novel was very unexpected. There is a major new event coming to the Forgotten Realms starting this summer. The first novel is a Drizzt novel. I have no idea what Salvatore is planning, but I can't wait to read it. It is amazing to me that after twenty-three novels Salvatore still manages to keep the Drizzt stories exciting, entertaining, and thoughtful.

Great read, iffy ending but i cant wait for the next book. - No Spoilers
So... this book reminds me of the video game Mass Effect 3. Fantastic content let down by a WTF?! ending. Throughout the read i was enjoying the story tremendously. it has everything i enjoy in a Bob Salvatore book, but the last 10% of the book let me down. This is the ending of a 4 book series and yet the ending offered no closure and was a poorly put together cliffhanger and many dangling plot threads were hastily tied together with no real purpose or satisfaction. Yes i know its not like this is meant to be the last Drizzt book (unlike ME3 which is the last game with Shepard) but you'll understand what i mean if you read it and to say more would be spoiling it. the reason i give it a pass though is unlike ME3 there is more coming, there is the start of the Sundering series in Aug. and i have a feeling it will clear up the confusing ending. I cant wait to read it

A great story that finishes the Neverwinter Saga brilliantly
I'll be honest. The book feels boring sometimes and that reflects my final score. The story is great, picking up thru it's previous with great pace. The thing is that it's whole quest seems a bit unepic. With drizzt clearly, and stubbornly, grabbing on things with his already known zeal.I loved his new party. Not shining beacons of humanity's hope. These heroes (or should I say anti-heroes?) are more grey than black and white and I feel it's a more realistic view of an otherwise amazing fantasy setting. This characters that travel with drizzt ain't working for the greater good but are simply there 'cause they see an opportunity. But there's more. The whole book seems to be around the catch phrase "On the right place at the right time". With loads of different characters seizing the opportunity to shine. The story ends rather shockingly and I read the last five or so chapters wholy immersed. Salvatore, since Gauntlgrym has been doing this quite well, the endings being developed with a quick pace and frenetic action, letting then the emptyness of you're casual life sink in after you finish the book. Always wanting to return to the journey of life of this adventuring and so highly morally driven hero.Salvatore doesn't disappoint in this book and if you're a fan of his work, make sure to add this book to you're collection. If you're new to his work and don't all his books (you should tho!), I would Say this Saga alone is quite a tale that will certainly leave you hooked to the great reading that Salvatore is.

In the end...disappointed
I love Drizzt books - love the character, love his skills, his compassion, his stoicism, I've even grown to love his philosophical soliloquies at the start of different volumes. But, if I'm being honest, I was very disappointed by the end of this book, this whole series. It just fizzled out with a whimper. I know, being a long-lived drow, Drizzt has, potentially, 1000 years of adventures; so much promise of future books, and, for fans like me, the hope of Drizzt books to entertain and make us step back & consider our own lives. I know the end is a little...inconclusive, so future books are still possible (or not). But this one doesn't leave you checking the iBooks store, the Amazon Kindle store, or your local fantasy/sci-fi bookshop for more Salvatore books. It just leaves you feeling somewhat...disappointed. :(

finalmente

Better than expected!
Another important Book of Salvatore in the Saga Of the Dark Elf with lots of plots. I could not let it out of my hands.
