Ballroom Dancing: Shocking True Stories from Behind the Scenes Review: Great eye opener - Thank you for showing the readers the truths behind dancing. Unfortunately we are leaving in a world full of deceit. I can only imagine the challenges the consumer has to face in other to satisfy the desire to dance!!! I could have gave you a 5 stars. Unfortunately, you didn’t mentioned anything about taxes. People pay that much money and they can’t even claim it at the end of the year in their taxes. So how do those dancing clubs or studios justify their income? How can the consumer reports to the IRS the money spent on dance lessons? Dance lessons is not tax deductible. But making it tax deductible will somehow protect the consumer. My goal is even more after reading your book to speak to my legislators. Review: Useful guidelines how to pick your dance teacher - This is a very true insight of the ballroom community. Unfortunately, there are many "teachers" out there, who should not be teaching. I hope this will be regulated and teachers have to be certified. I have met teachers like the ones describes in this book, even "teachers" who actually should be in jail. This book is a great guideline how to pick a teacher, who will help you to achieve your goals. I had a dance teacher in the past, who was incredible. He was certified and knew how to teach. He was able to create very good dancers. With his help, I learned more than I ever thought, and now I am competing. I will be forever grateful to him, he was an exceptional teacher and person. You have to work to get there, that is the truth. Anyone telling you you can win a competition in a few weeks is lying. This book will not discourage you to take dance lessons, in fact, it is necessary to have some background knowledge to make the right decision (and use common sense). Dancing is a wonderful sport or hobby. It is very fulfilling and you definitely will meet wonderful people. You just need to know what to look for. I recommend this book and you will be confident in your choices.

Book has many typos
Some helpful info about not getting ripped off by dance studios but book is very repetitive & filled with typos.

Accurate, if dull
If you think it's "shocking" that someone selling to you might overprice and underdeliver, then you might find this shocking. Otherwise, no. This is a reasonable book on the way ballroom studios and instructors may rip you off. I guess there were a few, short horrifying examples of criminals in the industry, so I guess that counts. In general, I was hoping for more stories about people and interactions than finance.
