Why is there a california warning?

It is a government requirement in California due to the state’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, also known as “Proposition 65”. The warnings required in California were updated by new implementing regulations that became effective in late 2018. The Act mandates that a daily serving of a dietary supplement must not exceed 0.5 micrograms (mcg) of lead (Pb). If the Pb content of a dietary supplement exceeds this threshold, California Proposition 65 requires that the product must bear a warning on its label stating that “Consuming this product can expose you to Lead, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/food.” Alternatively, the regulations allow a short form warning that states, “Reproductive Harm – www.P65Warnings.ca.gov”. However, it is important to keep in mind that ALL naturally occurring ingredients (i.e., botanical extracts and minerals) contain naturally occurring lead. If there are any botanical extracts or minerals in supplements, there may be miniscule amounts of lead in them. California’s requirements for dietary supplements are far below the rigid standards set by other scientific organizations. For example, the lead level that the Joint FAO/ WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives determined to be a safe daily intake (3.5 mcg/kg/day) for an average-sized human is 245mcg. In fact, at this level of daily intake, blood Pb levels do not rise appreciably. Thus, a prestigious scientific organization is using a cutoff of lead per day of 245mcg but the State of California is using 0.5mcg, a difference of 490-fold. Consider that in order to ingest an unsafe daily level of Pb, as documented by global scientific regulatory authorities, a 70 kg man would need to consume nearly 500 servings of a dietary supplement containing 0.5 mcg of Pb per serving. Many foods also contain levels of lead that exceed the Proposition 65 threshold. To put things into perspective: A single serving (one cup or 230 grams) of grapefruit contains approximately 5.98 mcg of lead, which exceeds the Proposition 65 limit by nearly 12 times. One cup of cooked rice (one serving or 46.25 grams raw rice) contains about 2.17 mcg of Pb, more than 3-fold higher than the Proposition 65 threshold. A 90-gram serving of shrimp (about 5 large shrimp) can contain as much as 18.9 mcg of Pb, or 37-times greater than the Proposition 65 limit. Following this logic, one serving of grapefruit, rice, or shrimp, according to Proposition 65, “contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.” Life Extension strongly supports rigid quality standards in dietary supplements. i'm concerned about sodium. this product has alginic acid. is this also sodium, as in sodium alginate (gaviscon advance)?

I'm not sure about that, but the 7th ingredient listed under the major ones is croscarmellose sodium.

will there ever be a version without sugar alcohols?

At this time, we have no plans to release a second version of this product without sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols are generally well-tolerated in most individuals, however, since all of our biochemistries are unique it can affect how we respond to different nutrients.

Instructions say to chew and then follow up immediately with 4oz to 8oz of water. Is this what others have are doing? How much water is too much?

I’ve never used any water. I thought the purpose was to form “a raft” so the acid wouldn’t come up. I’ve been chewing one pill before bed with no water for over a year with no problem.

I had break thru gerd at night just taking Gaviscon. I take this stuff, dry, no water before bed. Is it foamy and weird tasting? Yes, but it is well worth it. Best remedy I've tried in years.

I have ordered this product multiple times in the past few years since I discovered it. It has made a difference with night time acid reflux issues. I still sometimes wake in the middle of the night with issues even while taking this product, but overall, I have noticed an improvement. It foams up a lot when you chew the tablet, so I chew one tablet at a time and have some water close by beforehand so I am ready to drink a little water to wash down the foaminess. I also enjoy the flavor, and it doesn't have a funny aftertaste or give me cottonmouth in the morning.

Have had issues with stomach acid in the esophagus and research brought me to the Esophageal Guardian. It does cost a bit more than what I'd like it to but so far it seems to work. The first time I took it I was not expecting the Alginic Acid to react so fast, it foamed up in my mouth and was hard to swallow. Since then, I have learned to do 1 tablet at a time (I still take 2 just 1 at a time) and I chew it as fast as I can to break it down and then I swallow it with help of water. Doing this method it's a lot easier to use. The taste is fine to me, tastes like berry flavoring. I should also mention the first time it felt really heavy in my stomach. Which apparently is normal the first time. it no longer feels heavy like it did. If you have stomach acid issues, I suggest at least giving it a try. Just keep in mind what I mentioned above that it reacts really fast so chew fast swallow fast 1 tablet at a time.
