Excited To Read!
I am so excited about this book. Although I have not read it I can already tell by the fell of just having the book in my hand, this doctor is going to get straight to the point. I certainly appreciate her efforts putting this book together. I believe that hormones play a critical role and weight loss with so many people or not. With this newfound knowledge I am excited to implement common sense as if it changed to my body and the hormones and how they play it apart.

Worth the effort and expense.
I am writing this on Day 21. There were several misleads in the book jacket and Kindle sample. This is not a 21 day program. It will be at least 42 days by the time each eliminated food is tested for three days and removed again to test the next one. You do not remove each food for 3 days only. You remove an additional food every three days. > No more night sweats after eliminating beef and alcohol (estrogen). I have not had one since the second night. One less thing to wake me up. > The desire to snack dropped in half by eliminating sugar and fruit. > I gave up caffeine by day three since sleep difficulty was my first priority to resolve. Sleep improved. > My desire to snack is all but nil after eliminating grains (the hardest one for me). I am also not getting up at night to pee (excess blood sugar). > I did not notice any change when I eliminated dairy. > In the last phase I switched from plastic to glass food storage containers I also had all natural, toxin-free make-over and plan to purchase a few items each month. I also stopped eating nightshades. They were not one of the phases but she mentions trying it on one of the earlier stages. > I have lost about 7 pounds. > I will be measure tomorrow. > I googled "Bod Pod" and had my body fat measured. > I had my blood pressure checked by a professional. > I got the PH strips. I have read the book twice. I am inteligent and have a Master of Science degree but brain fog is one of my symptoms. I wanted to make sure I followed it to the T. Although I did not follow the sample menu I did get her protein shake powder (vanilla) and supplement packets; they were $109 and available only from her web-site. The shake was good with unsweetened coconut milk. The first few days I added berries until it was time to elimiated fruit. I now have it with carrots, ginger and spices. I have have the shakes about 5 days per week for breakfast. I have been diligent about the 25 protein grams at each meal and the pound of vegetables per day. Although I am still very fatigued it does have a different quality. My husband reports that my moods has improved and I have noticed myself laughing and joking more and generally feeling more myself. Exercise has become harder do to muscle fatigue and light-headedness first thing in the morning. As she referred to it often I also read "Wheat Belly". It was in there that I learned the difficulty exercising is a side effect of not eating grains and generally goes away once the withdrawal period is over.

Overall Disappointing
I love Dr. Gottfriend, and I own her other book, the Hormone Cure. I was really excited for this book, and I thought that it would assist me because I have hormone issues I am treating. She is the best of both worlds - someone with the education and she's "been there" so she knows how you are feeling. The diet is a mostly paleo-style template where she emphasizes eating a pound of veggies a day. She has the different phases set in 3 day intervals so that at the end of the 21 days you have done the entire reset. This is great for someone who eats a standard american diet or someone who is not knowledgeable regarding functional or natural medicine. But if you are someone who eats paleo/clean, and maintains a relatively non-toxic lifestyle, this book is not going to provide you any new information. I already eat a paleo/low carb diet and I did not see how this was a major change from what I already do. I also do not agree with eliminating red meat if you buy it from a safe source (I buy grass-fed and finished red meat from a local farm) but I understand where she is against factory farmed red meat. The book is well written, with lots of evidence for why cutting out each good group will help regulate your hormones. If you are at all in tune with your body, paleo, functional medicine, etc. then this is not the book for you. I am returning my copy.

Si les interesa este libro ya sea para bajar de peso o para mejorar su estilo de vida, se los recomiendo mucho. No se van a arrepentir. Este libro ha sido muy revelador en cuanto a los desórdenes hormonales que pueden “echarle más leña al fuego” a varios padecimientos que no parecen estar ligados a desbalances hormonales. Las recetas son sencillas, aunque uno que otro ingrediente no es tan fácil de encontrar en México (de hecho, muchos suplementos los venden en Amazon) La lectura es ligera y ágil e incluye consejos adicionales (apartado “Cell to soul practice”) para modificar la perspectiva de otros aspectos personales que pueden afectar cómo nos relacionamos con los alimentos o la carga emocional que puede impactar el balance hormonal. Definitivamente, este es un libro de compañía, no es una lectura de una sola ocasión.

Excellent book. The book explained how toxins built up and added pounds to the body weight.
