Q: Is the paint non-toxic?

Hi, thank you for your question. All children's products undergo testing in an accredited laboratory to ensure compliance with CPSIA and ASTM standards in the US. The keys' paint was individually tested for harmful content after being scraped off, and the test results and certificates were submitted to Amazon. This procedure is essential for selling products on Amazon.

Q: Are the bars removable?

I don't have the instruction booklet on hand at the moment so I can't say for certain. I can say, however, that they do not appear to be removable. There are no screw-heads to unscrew, and the bars do not come off from the upward position. I see no way to remove the bar from behind either. My guess is that there is no way to remove the bars. the bolts are pole shaped like a screw, but they are firmly secured and do not turn or twist or pull out with pressure. There is an added foam rubber (weather -stripping type) material that the bolts are fastened too to keep the bars in place. This strip is under the bars and the bolts have been fastened through the bar and into the stripping and the stripping is glues to the case. So, if you wanted to remove a bar, I suppose you could pull the stripping lose but not easily. A child could not remove it.

Q: Is it suitable for a 3 yr old?

This glockenspiel is a complete musical instrument, correctly pitched and tuned. In addition, the chromatic keys provide semitones sounding. It looks a rather complex and heavy toy for 3 years. We recommend this xylophone for children over 10 years old. For very young musicians, the diatonic 8 notes xylophone will be perfect.

Q: Does the lid act as a music stand for the music cards or does the lid lay flat once it's opened?

You are correct. The lid does not lay flat and so can be used as a stand for sheet music or music cards.
