I am an experienced horse person and have looked for good books for kids for a long time. This one is one of yhe better ones. I like the order information is presented and how prey/predator is explained along with non-verbal language. Parts of horse are introduced early. Written in small chunks to keep young readers' interest. I do wish kid's books didn't focus so much on competition and showed more trail riding and fun things to do with horses. 8 year old girl was able to read most of it on her own with help occasionally on specific words.
