what connector do you need to connect this to coaxial cable?

The antenna comes with cable terminated with an SO 239 which is basically a female PL-259.

Does this item come with any length of cable for attaching to the radio?

No it is just the base to mount to the mast, coil and whip. the coax would be ordered separately and then cut to length then a new connector installed. If you are installing it on a sailboat you will need a through deck connector (watertight) then an additional length of coax from the through deck connetor to your radio.

I am going on a over land trip through north Maine woods . How well do you think this antenna would receive work mounted to my truck ?

It is designed to be either very high (on a mast) or over open water - you might do better with trucker type CB antennas for ground use

Does the antenna unscrew from base? Be nice if it was removable with out having to remove bracket for boat storage with top down.

Yes it can however it does not fold down, you have to take the coax cable off and then take the brass nut off the antenna to remove it
