Great tactical light. Bright, has the 3 essential functions, easy to use, but head is 1.05" not 1"
POSITIVES:Great tactical light. Bright, is easy to use, and has the 3 essential functions:1) Click once for momentary on, useful for signalling (e.g. SOS) or for quickly identifying an intruder without giving away your position,2) Click twice for full power (320 lumens!), which can see things 200 yards away or blind an attacker,3) Click three times for a strobe light (also 320 lumens!) that can blind and disorient an attacker. It's also a perfect size and weight for a tactical light, IMHO.Big enough to use as a striking weapon for self-defense (and the crowned bezel can help with this), yetsmall enough to clip to a pocket or belt and not feel weighed down, or even kept in your pocket. I suggest using the included clip to secure it in place inside a a pocket, with the rear of the flashlight peeking out of the pocket so it's easy to grasp. The crowned bezel can be used as a striking weapon for self-defense, or as a glass-breaking tool (in case you're trapped inside a sinking car). A fringe benefit of the crowned bezel is that if you accidentally leave it on and place it face-down, enough light will leak out that you'll realize you left it turned on.NEGATIVES:Only 2 minor shortcomings:1) Uses two CR123 batteries, which are more expensive and harder to find than AA or AAA batteries (so I suggest keeping a couple spare batteries). However, the advantage to CR123 batteries is that they're more powerful than AA batteries (higher voltage), which gives you a brighter light 320 lumens!)2) The head of the Mag-Tac is 1.05" rather than 1", so it doesn't fit the same 1"-head accessories as the Maglite Mini-Mag AA, Maglite XL50, Maglite XL100, Maglite XL200, or other 1" accessories (such as traffic wands, colored lens filters, and anti-roll devices). However, the tail end is still 1", so you can put a 1" anti-roll device on the tail-end and it'll fit fine. You can also order traffic wands for the Mag-Tac from Maglite, but at $8 each it would be better if it could share the same traffic wands as all the 1"-head Maglites.

A good flashlight for what it is
This is a good entry level tactical flashlight for certain needs - definitely not for everyone.Pros:- A value for money flashlight - when it first came out over 10 years ago, I think it was something like $100 - which is way too much. Since then the price has dropped since Maglite released the Magtac 2 and the rechargeable versions.- 320 lumens at 9,200 candela will likely suit most people's needs. This works really well in an urban environment or indoors in a tactical setting. If you're out in the country where there are no / little artificial lighting, this may not be enough for you.- The one light setting is quite useful if that is what you're looking for - no chance of accidentally activating a lower light setting. It is piercingly bright especially at close range.- 4hrs run time; not terrific but not too bad either. There aren't many 2 x CR123a flashlights that run on high setting for that amount of time. They normally run for just 1.5-2.5hrs.- the tailswitch is electronic and therefore extremely easy to press, activating the other modes, and quiet. It's one of my favorite features of this light. This is a feature not found on many tactical flashlights - it's pretty stealthy- the form factor is great; comfortable to hold and to use.Cons:- Doesn't accept 18650s. I tried using Keeppower 3V RCR123as, but they didn't work. I guess the cells were too long or just not compatible.- Plastic clip: I holster this light so this isn't really an issue for me. But the clip does feel cheap and, as many people have commented on, does not seem to promise longevity. Maglite really should've just used a spring steel clip for this.- Plastic lens: for this price point, the lens should be tempered glass/gorilla glass. Can't comment on the reliability/durability, as I've just had the light for a few weeks.Overall, for the price, this light is worth it if you are happy with what it can do. If you are looking for a top-performing tactical light or a flashlight with tons of versatility, you're probably not going to get this light. With higher quality materials and with a greater lumen and candela output but without sacrificing runtime, Maglite would've really hit the ball out of the park with this one.

Mag-Lite Mag-Tac

This one's a keeper.
This light is exactly what I needed. I have no complaints about the plastic lens because I have never broken a MagLite lens. The momentary on for this light is perfect and is exactly what I needed to be able to signal for work (Military). I have had difficulty finding a new light that still had a momentary on option that was usable. This one works perfectly and if you click is twice very fast than the light will stay on. The momentary on is the default setting, which is great because it prevents it from being clicked on and staying on while in a bag or being worn. It also allowed me to signal well. Three fast clicks gets me the strobe feature which is done well. The batteries last at least as long as advertised and the light stays just as bright almost right up until the batteries die. The new version of the Inova lights and Streamlights lose a lot of their brightness as the battery life progresses. The MagTac survived going on an exercise with me and is now a permanent part of my kit. The plastic clip is preferred because it will not bend by accident. I tried applying some force to this one and it seems quite strong. I also stops the light from rolling when placed on a flat surface. This light doesn't disappoint me on any level. Brighter, lasts longer, and built better than the other mainstream competition. I don't like some of the no-name brands that offer brighter lights because I find that I can't depend on them and they are not made very well. I exposed this one to rain and freezing rain for almost a week straight without any difficulties. I'm glad I bought this light.
