This book is a great one to start a pupil on
This book is a great one to start a pupil on, if they are approx between 5 and 8 years old. The print is large ( always helpful for beginners) and the method excellent, in that a pupil gets used to following shapes, fingering and gradually notes on the stave. If a pupil is bright, then he/she will go at a faster rate, and that's fine. It is better to have something that is achievable and fun, than to struggle with your first book. I have been teaching for 30 years, and have used many different tutor books, but this is one of the best.

Great book to start piano with
I am using this book to teach two kids from the very beginning. After 3 lessons they are already moving all of their fingers in both hands, and the eldest child has started to work through the book independently. I highly recommend this book.

Great book
A perfect introduction to the piano for my daughter who's 5. Simple instructions and images to follow making it easy to follow with the guidance of the piano teacher.

Alfreds Basic Piano Course, Level 1A
I find this good to teach from as a starter book for students from year 5 onwards. I use Alfreds Prep course for younger students, which usually works well for them. This book starts playing without actually reading music, but introduces musical knowledge bit by bit.It again moves at a steady pace which is good to give confidence. The music stave is introduced before long & builds on knowledge already learned from the beginning of the book.A nice large print, which younger students love.
