I've been using this for a while now and it's given me good accurate readings for my brews. It doesn't come with it's own container so you need to supply that yourself. In my case that's what I was looking for because I didn't want to spend the extra money since I already had one.

Excellent quality and well made! I just started a new batch of ginger bug soda and took my first reading. Watched a review on You Tube from a home brewer before purchasing. He recommended the glass container. I do too. Pay the extra money!

Purchased as a replacement for one that arrived broken in a kit. So far it works well.

First of all, I was asked about the flavor of this item! It does not have one, fortunately. The instruction quality was a bit unclear, and it may or may not make a great gift. Giving one of these to a brewer might seem a bit like giving a wrench to a mechanic. I would make sure that this is something that they need first. If it is a novice brewer, then this would make a good gift, but make sure that you also include a plastic test cylinder!The device works, and gives a fairly good estimate on alcohol content. It is a good idea to buy two of these, because they feel breakable. Peace of mind is worth a few extra dollars. It is important to buy a test cylinder, and I prefer the ones made of plastic. This device has been a game changer in my kombucha brewing. Kombucha can have a wide range of alcohol content, so it is best to have a good estimate of the exact amount.

Arrived in one piece and was packaged with care.Unlike so many of the other similarly priced hydrometers this was package in a way that protected the glass inside.Worked great for proofing my plum wine

I really enjoyed using this hydrometer but I dropped it the second wine that I made, and glass will be glass if you drop it. I really liked the size and thickness. Easy to use. It came very well packaged. I am very satisfied. Except for the gravity problem :-)

Needs more instructions on how to use.
