Fast, Cool, and Space Saving
If you are looking for an eight-port switch, look no further. This little switch from Cisco is pretty much everything one could want from a small (by number of ports) switch. I have been using it for almost two months now and have had zero problems. It runs transfer at near its capacity, doesn't produce much heat in the process, and has a small form factor made of high-quality materials (largely metal). I will be looking at this line again when my needs expand in the near future.

Painless network expansion
I recently added a device to my home network and realized that I was at capacity already. Also, I discovered that my old hub was slower than what my TiVo could handle. I used this switch to update my layout, giving me more ports. I haven't done any scientific tests, but installation was as simple as you'd expect and the device seems to be working perfectly and has been for six months or so.

Plug and go
This is a great little switch that I've used to establish a connection point some distance from my house internet access router. It supports streaming video to an HDTV, VoIP phone, and a couple other devices. Although these don't all need the gigabit connection, it's there if I want to plug in my laptop for much speedier inside-network transfers compared to wireless. The gigabit feature is also good future-protection since this speed will only become more common. Another highly desirable feature is that the activity and connection-speed LEDs are right there, physically adjacent to the Ethernet connectors. By facing this side of the switch into the room I can spot exactly what's going on from across the way. If you don't want to be bothered by the flashing LEDs, then just turn the switch around so those face the wall.

Great Value
This thing works awesome. My router and modem are in the basement and I have a Cat5e cable running to the 2nd floor of the house to a wall port where there is connected to. Wall jack also has 6 other Ethernet cables coming into it and connect to this witch and Internet is great around the entire house. Connected to Gigabit NIC on PC, my ping is only 1 MS more compared to the PC connected right to my wireless (also Cisco router in the basement.) I trust nothing but Cisco. Cisco switch, modem and router. Great value, no complaints.

Replaced a generic 4-port gigabit switch
I need 6 ports now, and bought this 8 port switch to replace a generic 4-port gigabit switch. I'm not going to use this on my mantle, so don't really care what it looks like. For the record, though, the front looks like the image, the sides and top are a greyish color. *I* think it looks fine. As a major plus, I've seen a noticeable performance increase over the old switch. Netflix and Amazon Nnever buffer during a movie any more (Roku 2 XS, ethernet wired) and file transfers over the network are faster. Would absolutely recommend and buy again.

Seems to work well
I haven't had a chance to load test but traffic seems to flow as designed. One of the switches I purchased was not going to leverage the gig ports so my only issue is this switch will not negotiate 100/full with only 2 pair (requires 4 pair). I had a damaged pair so understood I would not get Gig, but 100Mb works fine with 2 pair so instead of using the Cisco switch, I had to use an older 100Mb switch instead.

works great, stays cooler than older ethernet hubs
Not much to say, it simply works as described. This is an unmanaged switch, in other words, there is no configurable function. The switch simply directs network traffic between the connected devices. To be able to connect your devices to the Internet you also need a cable/DSL modem, and a WiFi/LAN router. The switch itself does not provide DHCP (direct host IP configuration protocol) services, meaning that simply connecting computers and printers to the switch is not enough to achieve connectivity--the devices would have to be configured with fixed IP addresses for a reliable connection. (for example, 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.11, ...)
