does the colored oil put off a colored flame or is the color just for show in a glass container?

It's just for show. But it does look terrific. Flame is the same color as any normal flame from clear oil or a candle.

Does the colored oil stain it's vessel? My sis bought me a beautiful elephant oil candle . Its clear & would love to try a color dont want it stained.

No It does not stain the inside of a glass container. It might stain fabric but I have never had a problem. I have been using blue oil it my antique lamps for probably 20 years. the bottom of them holding the oil is clear so this adds a lot.

why is colored oil higher than clear oil

I have found the same to be true. The color may be proprietary, since the flame doesn't burn the same color as the oil.
