Tuneless!
All efforts failed to get a decent tuning on a 8 x14 Ludwig Black Magic. I tried tuning high to low and failed. I tried a 5 mil and a 3 mil snare head with no success. I even tried a new set of PureSound wires. I have been playing drums as a hobby for 45 years and I have never had an issue tuning any drum after the initial learning curve long ago. I have used Remo heads more often than any brand and think they are great, except this model. I am sure others have had great success with this head, so, it must be me, but, I tried for hours with no luck.

Great as a 10 Inch Snare Batter Head for a Popcorn Snare drum!
I have a PDP Concept Maple 10 inch popcorn Snare - Black Wax that I use in my drum Kit /Setup. The original snare head has the coating rubbing off (a Remo Head from PDP was OEM). After researching on line for a replacement, I stumbled upon this Remo Control Sound snare batter head. Ordered it based on the Amazon reviews and feedback. Very glad I did. This head Sound great for this drum. It give off that nice "Crackle" for a popcorn Snare (10 X 6.5). Better than the stock head which did not have the control Sound feature of the Dot in the Middle. And this head is made in the USA, the OEM Remo head was made in China. Highly recommended IMO.

The Only Snare Head For My Vintage Drums
I've used the coated control sound snare on my vintage drums for several years now. I play on a 1959 wood Ludwig, and a 1962 wood Slingerland snare with this head. The reverse mylar patch provided the focus and overtone dampening I want when playing with sticks, but the construction of the head along with the Remo coating, allows for the lively resonance i need at lower volumes and with bushes. I've tried a bunch of different heads from Remo and Evans, but always come back to this head for my vintage wood drums. I have one 1970 era, chrome over steel Premier snare that i use an Evans HD Dry on, but that head chokes out my wood drums. I highly recommend this drum head.

Favorite Snare Drum Head
I’m not a drummer by any means but as a musician I know A LOT of drumsets have this head, I’ve seen how long they last and how great they sound and when it was time to put a new head on my snare-drum, I ordered this of amazon, i think theres a few different versions of this head, cause I’ve seen different ones in different sets, but all of them sound great. Mine was easy to put on and tune, and after a year I still havent had any problems with it, the coating is still there, the tone is stoll great, its still in tune and if i ever decide to change it Ill get it again.

Not a lot of experience with drum head, but this one is solid
I have only recently began playing drums a lot more than I used to, and just now swapped out my heads from the factory ones (from a PDP Mainstage kit), and omg this head just motivated me even more to play! After several months of playing on it 2-4 times a week for 1-2hours a session, this head is not showing an dimples or other critical signs of wearing down. Plus, a lot of the drummers I look up to use this head. So it must be good right?Would Recommend

A killer batter-side snare head
I’ve been partial to Remo drumheads for awhile now and as far as their snare heads go this one my favorite. I play a relatively small snare drum (10”) and it took some mixing and matching but I finally settled on a hazy ambassador snare side head with this bad boy on the batter side and I’m very pleased with the sound of my snare now. Don’t even need to muffle it with an e-ring or gels. It’s really all a matter of personal preference, but I would recommend this head as a rock solid choice to any drummer.

I think I have a new favorite beater head
I've always stuck to the Ambassadors due to the overwhelming positive feedback I get on them. Every drummer says Ambassador coated, the same way they all say SM57 mic for snare. When I busted through the beater head on my pulse piccolo I decided to try something different. I'm glad I did, this snare head is incredible. The black dot in the center perfectly translates every nuance of stick into a powerful downward force of air, striking the snare stronge and squarely in the middle. The result is that in spite of it's thickness, it's incredibly supple and sensitive.Never before have I found a beater head that could stand up to rock hits, AND has the suppleness to do brush work and subtle accent rolls in jazz and funk music. It's a jack of all trades and master of most. I really can't find any negatives other than the price.

Where do I even start
I took this thing out the box and slapped it in my 14” snare and instantly started tuning I got great low fat snare responses which would be tremendous in any funk/ rock situation, I got a nice medium sound which was amazing I almost stopped there but I’m more of a gospel/ funk/ jazz and really Versatile player so the medium-high to high range took the cake. It has a nice pop when you strike it and the over tones aren’t too much they’re just right but if you don’t want overtones at all moon gel will take care of it. 5 out of 5 I surely recommend.

Durable and musical
The Remo Coated CS Dot is my go to head when I want a little more focus and durability. I find they work great on metal shelled snare drums, this head went on a 14x6.5 Gretsch USA Bronze which is a bit of a beast, and it tunes up or down easily. Still a little ringy but I like that and can be easily tamed with some dampening if needed. These heads last a while too, highly recommended if you something durable but not dead.

Focused sound.
Easy to fit and tune. The central coated control sound area certainly gives a pleasing sound. I'm using it on a Pearl steel snare. It helps reduce the "ringing".Not so sure about durability. After one rehearsal session of 3 hours, the centre was certainly showing signs of wear and I'm not a heavy hitter. But overall, pleased with it.

Classic Rock Sound
The Remo 14" Controlled Sound Coated Snare head gives me exactly the classic rock sound I'm looking for. I can usually get four or five months out of the head which gets some hammer as I'm out gigging most weekends. I'm a fairly heavy hitter however the head always retains its integrity and it's just the coating that wears away. Speaking to a REMO technician recently it came as no surprise to learn that the Remo 14" Controlled Sound Coated head is their best seller.

The best
This is my favourite snare drum batter, it’s the ideal weight for me, Ambassador’s are a bit light weight and lacking in power and anything heavier (double ply Emperor etc) are too dull and rob the character too much. The CS still resonates and gets the best of the drum.
