Philips Epilator is my new Religion.
I have used an epilator for years so when I say I am well versed in torture devices, I mean it. I owned one of the very first epilators.. which I nicknamed the "Chainsaw". Not only did it sound like a chainsaw when turned on, it often left me feeling like I had just wrestled one, much in the way a person would wrestle a bear trying to maul them to death. Still, I couldn't stand waxing and shaving just wasn't good enough. I needed that baby smooth skin for weeks feeling without the sticky mess or nightmare scenarios of having my naked whoohaa glued to the bathroom tub. (I'm sure most ladies have heard about that story, if you haven't, just search for waxing nightmare" and I bet it will pop up.) So I turned to the epilator. This little device has a spinning drum that contains tons of tiny tweezers that yank the hair out violently. It's similar to being attacked by a mob of tweezer wielding ninjas; all in a compact hand held device that is as loud as throwing a brick in a vitamix. When my last epilator died, I mourned for all of two seconds and then shifted to using a razor again. But i hated that two days later, I had to shave.. every two days, for the rest of my life? No thank you. I relented and went on amazon and found the Philips Epilator 8000. The name alone made me think "POWER TOOLS!" and I'm fairly certain it was named by a man but it did come in a pretty rose gold and white and had some interesting attachments. I figured, why not. I wouldn't mind the sanding disk for those bank glass thick callouses on my feet. I deserve pretty feet right? The exfoliator brush might come in handy as well and it had two size electric trimmers, which I was positive I would use because I'll be damned if i'm going to let an epilator anywhere near the lady bits. Well, it arrived and I unboxed it and was very impressed. It's solid, the attachments fit nicely onto the device. It had detailed instructions, but we'll get to that in a moment. Overall, I was impressed by how it shipped and looked. I plugged it in and let it charge over night and took the instruction booklet for some light reading before bed. I think at this point, the only negative that I wanted to mention was Philips would do well to offer a small case with this product. Something in a matching white and rose gold would be perfect because it does have a lot of attachments to keep track of. Now on to the instructions. Who needs instructions right? I hardly ever pay attention to them but for some reason I was bored and had run out of good books to read so I flipped through it casually and noticed it suggested using it after a hot shower or bath and mentioned that it was water proof and could be used IN shower or bath. IN THE SHOWER?? REALLY? I had never considered using my old epilator that way. I figured I didn't need the chainsaw electrocuting me at the same time but the instructions made it clear that it would be far less painful if it was used on soft, wet skin. OK THEN! I decided to give this new idea a shot and the next morning, I hopped into the shower and followed the instructions. I use the exfoliating brush with a nice beauty bar and scrubbed the stuffin out of the areas I would be using the epilator on. This is very important because it allows the epilator to get closer to the skin and remove even the smallest hairs right at the root. Not to mention, I had super soft skin afterwards. Here comes the chainsaw... I snapped the epilator head on it and cringed as I turned it on. It still sounds like a chainsaw, by the way.. I guess there's no way to stop that. I closed my eyes and braced myself as it pressed the chainsaw head to my delicate shin. Nothing.. I felt nothing. There was no pain. Was it working? was this device defective. I slid it up my leg and felt a couple little tingly twinges when it found an especially course hair but otherwise, it was relatively comfortable. I lifted it up to look at it and see if it was actually working and found a wad of hair that it had removed that made me wonder if I had turned into a sasquatch at some point and never realized it. So yes, it was working! Very well in fact. This beauty was so painless compared to other epilators I've used that I decided to get adventurous and use it on areas I never ever would have because I was convinced I'd have PTSD afterwards. I was able to use it on my armpits with no issues at all, then I just went for it and ran that thing everywhere. Yes... everywhere. Legs... brrrrbt.. smoove... thighs...brrrrbt... smoove... bikini area... brrrrbt.. (small amount of howling happened but only minor) smoove. Lady bits... BRRRRBT.... *howling intensified for a moment* but then smooove. That's right ladies.. this worked everywhere and I didn't end up having to go to group therapy or cry in the corner of my shower stall. I love this little sucker so much that I've given it a place of honor in my bathroom and shall forever keep it there, in it's very own shrine that I will worship at once every 4 to 6 weeks. Oh and the sanding disk? I have such pretty, smoooooove feet now. So cute! This is a must have for any woman, no matter what your pain tolerance. Just make sure to use it IN the shower with soap like you would a normal razor, after a good scrubbing of the area you intend to use it on and you'll be amazed.

Fantastic Product!
I just want to know how I went through 25 years of leg shaving to just find out about this product now. Didn't hurt to use on my legs AT ALL! It really was not good at getting my chin hairs out, and I ended up with bumps and very irritated skin, but I also think it is not for the face. Now, the best part? OMG the heel callous remover. Did a better job in 2 mins than any pedicure. Love this thing!

The ONLY Epilator That Works For Coarse Hair
Update 2 years later: still works and still the best i have used- solidly made I've tried several epilators to varying success. I started with the Silk-épil 9, which has both a shorter than advertised charge, and can tug or break hair rather than uprooting. As a result it takes forever, compounded by not being able to do full body on a single charge. Because it breaks hair it also grows back faster and patchy. I bought the less expensive emjoi emagine dual epilator, thinking that the corded model and double rotating head with more tweezers would speed things up. The motor head is plastic and burned out after maybe 6 uses, it's also LOUD and somehow still misses a lot and seemingly took just as long as the silk When i first saw this i assumed the tweezers were plastic from first sight. They are in fact ceramic. I have used it only once so far, but it seemingly is MUCH faster and more accurate than the others. It also seems to have a stronger motor, and because it seems to actually uproot hair (you can tell by the little bits of skin from the follicle being turned inside out) versus breaking or tugging, it hurts less and gets done faster. I will update when ive had more experience to see how it holds up

Just what I expected
This epilator is great! I use to wax, and when the hair starts growing back the growth cycle becomes a mess and there is hair growing that wasn't out when I waxed and I have to do the whole wax thing all over again if I want it to last, it's really annoying and not worth it. Now I use the epilator, and it's a lifesaver! Much easier and fast.

Not as Expected - Don’t Recommend
I had high expectations for this based on the reviews - but I was sorely disappointed. Took it out of the box and charged it - no issues here. After reading the reviews and the instructions, I chose to use it in the shower, after exfoliating well in order to get the best results. Unfortunately, my results were lackluster at best. It did not get the hair as it was supposed to, I was going over and over and over the hair and it was still there. I ended up using my old standby razor to finish the job - and am retuning this because it’s absolutely not worth the money.

Best shower purchase in years
If I could give it 100 stars, I would. I bought my daughter one a while back that didn’t go in the shower. Never again. This thing works great and doesn’t even hurt in the shower. Game changer. To the reviewer before who made me brave enough to do all hairs….bravo. I was terrified. It wasn’t bad at all. Don’t think, just do it. The foot rotary thing is also amazing. Pulverized my nasty foot callouses. Can’t wait to try the exfoliation brush. Philips- you guys knocked it out of the park again.

Better than the Silk Epil
I’ve been using the Braun Silk Epil and it broke after a year of using it. Needed a new one, so I bought this one. I like it better than the Braun! It seems to have a little more power and doesn’t skip as many hairs. It hurts the same as the Braun but what do you expect?!? It’s ripping hairs out by the root! I’m also pleased with the free 3 year warranty! My last two Brauns only lasted a year each.

Works well for removing unwanted hair , and deadened dry skin and calouses. A warning though , you need some what a tolerance to pain in some of the sensitive parts of the body.
