Less than 30 seconds but you turn it over and begin the process again! It is well made and has a nice sound to it. Everyone loves it and I would buy another one again!

Is this toy safe for someone with special needs? Will it break if it is thrown?

It seems very sturdy to me. I gave it to my adult son who has special needs. I think if it can survive him, it can survive just about anything. :)

Does the sound last longer if you angle it like a traditional rainstick?

So sorry, I purchased this for a gift last year for a five year old. I did not see him using it as he lives out of state. Hi Mom was so happy with it as it calmed him down - it did work for a hyperactive child.
