Red Borsch Instant Soup Product of Poland Winiary 170g (Pack of 2)

We thought this soup was excellent! I don't like beets and I liked this. A little sweet and a little salty. It made me think of a cup of chicken broth. It gave that same comforting feeling and a bit of that taste despite having no meat in it. Ordering more now.

I absolutely love this soup! I've bought it before from somewhere else. Does it taste like traditional homemade Borscht that takes a long time to prepare and cook? No this is instant you can't expect that from an instant soup be real. What you can expect is that it tastes delicious for an instant soup and will last you awhile if making for one person. Instructions aren't in English but does that really matter? Honestly I see people complaining let me explain it's simple. One or two small spoonfuls in boiling hot water. Make it according to taste if one spoonful isn't enough flavor add half another or another spoonful. For extra delicious flavor if you have these ingredients on hand, add a little spoonful of sour cream and shredded pickled beets. Easy and perfect work lunch. Great price and value for two. Both are well within date and packaged very well. Arrived very quickly.

Great quality and taste

I lived in Poland for 7 months, and in the states, finding vegetarian based soups is one kind. In Poland, you have red and white and even mushroom based. But this lovely little beet soup base is almost fruity. I don’t taste meat, which most of these in Poland is saturated in a chicken flavor. Actually, even ketchup Cheetos, every potato chip in Poland tastes like it’s chicken broth based. But this beer soup is fruity, and as far as I know, vegetarian friendly as far as taste, AND I mean who doesn’t my want cleaner blood, cause I’m a dork about food and nutrition (mostly).

If you like traditional Polish-style barszcz, then this is a fairly decent imitation. It would be naive to expect that a little bit of powder and some hot water would taste like the most traditional Polish Xmas Eve soup, which takes lots of secret and complex ingredients (every family has their own "perfect recipe", with wine and apple peel included) and hours to make... but this is close enough. A few quick notes: this comes in two boxes that are much SMALLER than they look in the product picture - see the pic of one of the customers holding one of these in their hand to get an idea. Having said that, one box is about 17 portions (that's what it says), although this too is confusing: the "portion"/serving here is 200ml or about 3/4 of US standard cup. The instructions (in tiny print in the back, in mangled, incorrect Polish that says "2 łyżeczki zupy" which is nonsense, and means literally "two teaspoonfuls of soup spoon...) call for 2 flat tbsps of powder for 200 ml (3/4 cup) of hot water. A clarification says 10g of powder for 200 ml of water, and it seems right since the total weight is 170g so indeed, at 10g/serving it will give you 17 servings. I tried 10g / 200ml water and it works. Ingredient list includes (no surprises, pretty standard fare in this type of product across various manufacturers like Knorr, etc.): sugar, beet juice concentrate, salt, maltodextrin, MSG, disodium 5'-ribonucleotides, palm oil, citric acid, yeast extract, dried vegetables (onion, garlic), flavor enhancers (grain based), black pepper. May contain (residual) egg, soy, milk, celery, mustard seed. A 200 ml serving has 34 kcal, 0.4g fat, 7.2g carb (incl. 5.6g sugars), 0.5g protein, and 1.5g salt/sodium. I usually like it a little more acidic, so to "fix it" I'd add a small amount / splash of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (2-3 ml, no more) and some white and black pepper for extra spicy, and it's actually quite good. :) If you really want to imitate the "Polish experience," then serve 400 ml (2 portions) soup plate with a few mushroom tortellini (baby bella, although Italian cheese torellini like the Rana brand will work too) floating in the soup, which will make it as close as you can get to the traditional Polish Xmas Eve "barszcz and uszka" (little ears, like Italian "orecchiette"). Or, if you prefer it served the non-Xmas, everyday "home" style, then adding a little cream (I mix sour cream or crème fraîche with a bit of heavy whipping cream), and adding 1-1.5 hard-bolied egg, quartered, to the plate also works well, and makes it a beautiful, spectacular pink! Enjoy. WARNING: Do not get the liquid or - even worse - the POWDER on your clothes or light-colored surfaces; this is not a great thing to serve at children's parties - LOL - the strong red color is really hard to get out! If it happens, wipe or rinse with medium warm water immediately. Harmless, but will stain. Permanently. You have been warned! ;)

The price isn’t the greatest for the amount you get. Also, one of my containers came busted open and other reviews said there are no returns. So minus one star for price and minus one star for one of my containers arriving broken with the powder spilling out. However, I will probably still order again as long as the price doesn’t increase because this drink feels like a hug in a cup to me. It’s a hot drink that just feels like home. I’ve tried other brands and they’re just not as good as this one.

I’ve tried several different brands. This is by far the best. Absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be buying more.
