Beautiful film set in Sicily, very moving.

I liked the portrayal of Italian life during this period but it left me feeling rather exhausted.

After this dvd for a long time j'adore this Italian actress Monica Bellucci 10/10

The setting, the photography, Monica, all perfect. But the script is rather weak and it could have done with some far too explicit scenes that don't make it suitable for wider audiences. The story could have been far more interesting with a better script. Of course the music score is great. The director had good material but didn't use all its potential.

I bought this film to see the Madonna scene, but it was cut from this version! Grrrr. I would have liked to watch that scene, especially as it is featured in the box… there a photo of it! . So I don’t really know what the full intended film is like. What I watched was interesting and deep, but if it wasn’t the exact full film, then what was it? Feeling a bit frustrated. The film is rude and makes statements about a judgemental society and the damage it can do. I think the film would be much better with the Madonna scene left in… feel unable to properly review as I didn’t receive what I ordered.
