Scotty #3025 Downrigger Weight Retriever w/ Snap, Fairlead Cleat & 78-Inches of Cord , BLACK, Small

A simple device, but effective. I used to run the riggers with the boom collapsed to the shortest position - about 2 feet - simply to make it easier to get to the weight. This encouraged tangles if we wanted to run a 3rd line down the middle of the boat with a drop weight. In order to run the boom at the full 48 - I had to rotate the downrigger forward to get to the weight. With a 12# ball on the end - it wouldn't want to swing, etc...general PITA. If you have a long boom out the side of the boat, this makes it easy to bring the weight toward the boat, suspend it there with the line holder and clip on your fishing line. The other perk is you only bring the weight up to the water surface - leaving enough line to pull it toward the boat. This keeps the weight from swinging around. It's one of those things that - once you've used it - you can't imagine not having it. Great design. It could be less expensive considering that it's just a couple pieces of plastic and string.

Great product used on downrigger

You MUST get these for your Scotty downrigger. They work like a charm and save bending over the side of the boat trying to catch that cannon ball or fight with the cable to attach line snubbers. You DO NOT have to cut your cable to install. I found a U-Tube video that showed soaking the end in very hot water for about 30 seconds then coating the ring with household dish soap; push the cannon ball snap through then work the ring over the stopper at the end of your cable and you're done without cutting the cable. Try it. It works. I permanently mouned the line holder onto the base of my downrigger and I couldn't be happier with the whole operation now.

These are a must if you have long beams on your downrigger. Easy to install on my cannon and my Penn riggers.

I chose these because of the simple, reliable design. I really like the design much better than the Cannon pulley system, BUT there is no way in He11 to use them after you have terminated the cable end on a set of new (2022) Cannon Optimum down down riggers. I had to return them after reading some reviewers claim that they could be installed if you soaked them in hot water to soften them up. I tried that and ended up have to get the Cannon pulley style instead. I would have kept them if I could have squeezed the Cannon ends through the hole.

Easy install. Works great. Noticed the yellow color is fading in the sun, but still works great.

These are a game changer for downriggers and placing your line in the clips. I was so tired of trying to ge5 the downrigger ball close so I could place the clips on my line. These bring the ball right to side of boat and holds it there. So much easier and no need to lean out or try and hand pull the ball closer

So - the directions included have you cut the cable. DO NOT DO THAT. Get a pot of boiling water. Throw the piece in that is on the cable, put the other piece in there as well. Let 'em sit for a minute or 3. This makes 'em soft for the time being. Now - take a bit of dish soap and put it on the black part you're going to put thru the yellow part. Go ahead and shove it thru. I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to push it in, then pull it out the other side. But - it slips right thru. No cutting and now you have spare parts. I LOVE MY RETRIEVERS (leashes) - I have them on all 4 down riggers, and, had 'em on my last boat, and the one before that. Way better than the Canon's. With my booms extended out to 60" - this brings the ball/cable right to me. NOW - get a set of Mack's Shuttle Hawks to go with this purchase - and - you only have to put the cable down once a day. The shuttle hawk and the retriever will do the rest.
