Must have for any kitchen
The OXO Good Grips Soft-Handled Manual Can Opener is hands-down one of the best kitchen tools I’ve purchased. It’s incredibly easy to use—even with minimal effort, it glides smoothly around the can. The soft, ergonomic handles provide a comfortable grip, making it perfect for people with reduced hand strength or anyone just looking for a more comfortable option. What really stands out is how sturdy and well-made this opener feels. It doesn’t flex or slip while in use, and it cuts cleanly without fraying the lid or leaving behind sharp, jagged edges. Every cut is smooth and safe, which gives me extra peace of mind in the kitchen. This can opener is a great example of smart design and solid construction. It’s simple, reliable, and makes opening cans effortless. A must-have in any kitchen!

my favorite manual can opener
Update on February 3, 2021: I STILL ADORE THIS CAN OPENER. But today, I thought I had found a hair in my can of tomatoes (the first one I opened). While I was opening a second can of tomatoes, I noticed that the can opener made a threadlike shaving of metal as it went around the can, and I mistook this for a hair in the first can. I have no idea what happened - the can opener never did this to other cans. It's hard to know what is actually to blame, because the new can opener has worked flawlessly up until these 2 cans of tomatoes. I will continue to test and try to report any further problems. I LOVE THIS CAN OPENER. I hope it is not putting metal in my food. It hasn't rusted after about a week of fairly heavy use. I'm going to investigate the company that packs these cans of tomatoes, because it could be a flaw or inherent weakness in their cans too (since this doesn't happen with any other cans so far).Original feedback: I really like this can opener. It has nice non-slip grips, and the crank you turn is a nice large size. When you put it onto the edge of the can and try to pierce the can, it pierces very easily. Turning the crank is very easy. The can opener stays on the can and does not try to jump off, and it does not try to shred the paper label on the can. It doesn't mangle the can lid, although you are left with a sharp edge on the lid like is normal for this type of can opener, so be careful when handling the parts of the can where you have cut. I detected no metal shreds from this can opener. The can opener was easy to remove from the can. This can opener opens much wider than most manual can openers than I have ever seen. It will let you open it so far that the two halves of the can opener form a straight line. This made it so much easier to clean than any other can opener I have used before.I have not owned it long enough to tell you anything about how rustproof it is. But it works great so far, and I have owned it a week now. I'll try to update my review after more time has passed.

Works awesome.
I am 72 and my hands are not as strong as they use to be. I was thrilled the first time I used it. Perfect. Fingers crossed that it lasts for a long time, because it is so easy to use.

Excellent Can Opener for Seniors!
I've had Swingaway can openers before (from our local hardware) & they're generally good & not very expensive. But in the last few months I've had more trouble opening cans with my latest Swingaway. What I want in a can opener: 1) that it's sharp enough to pierce the lid well, without much pressure & 2) that it turns easily, all the way around the can. I was having trouble with both lately. So I did a bit of research & decided to order the Oxo--wondering if it really was any better. And yes, it is! So far! Instant piercing....& very easy to turn. I'd never had that extra padding on the turner part & that's nice to have. I'm early 80s, with pretty agile hands still, but I think many seniors (as well as others) would appreciate Oxo's design. The handles are not any longer than the Swingaway, which means it easily fits in my kitchen drawer. Looks nice as well, if you want to hang it. Isn't overly heavy. Isn't too expensive either (at least not the Oxo one I ordered).A can opener doesn't seem like a big thing. BUT if you're struggling to open a can, it CAN (no pun intended!) be a big deal!

The best can opener hands down
I don't get how people can't figure out how to use a can opener! This can opener is the best one I ever had, it opened every size can from tiny tomato paste cans to giant tomato sauce cans and it spreads all the way open for easy cleaning and storage. For initial quality A+, time will tell and if it doesn't hold up, well I bought 2 more just in case cause this is the most comfortable sharpest and best opener I ever had and I have alot them which are now going to the thrift store!

Practical & Easy to Work, Will Donate Old/Cheap One
This can opener is way better than the cheap one I bought at Walmart when we first moved into our apartment. That other one made me look and feel dumb every time I used it. This one makes a clean cut around and requires little to no handgrip or strength. So far this year I only have positive thoughts on the OXO brand and I expect to see this last a good while.
