Teva is an authentic icon in the outdoor industry. Founded in the early 1980's by a Colorado River guide, Teva pioneered the sport-sandal category. For more than 20 years on rivers, in canyons, and across the trails of the great outdoors, athletes and enthusiasts have traveled the globe comfortably and confidently in Teva footwear. Providing positive contributions to the world in which we play is at the core of everything Teva stands for. The Teva name itself is a Hebrew word meaning "nature" and the hand logo is the Hopi symbol for "friendship" and "water." Teva supports the outdoor athletic lifestyle and remains committed to innovation in outdoor performance footwear, the platforms which carry enthusiasts beyond the offices of the day-to-day and onto the rivers, trails, and canyons of the next adventure.

Excellent and highly adjustable fit - fits very similarly to Katavi which with more padding is more comfortable
I got in one shipment all in size mens size 11:Teva Obern 11Teva Toachi 11Teva Katavi 11Teva Hurricane 11Hurricane - these are very nice and highly adjustable because of the way the heel and mid-foot strapping integrates together. This was only true for the Hurricanes. It was possible to get them to fit quite comfortably, in spite of the material looking like it might be harsh, because of the way these can be adjusted for fit - and because the heel strap can ride very low on the heel vs. on the ankle. One thing I did not like in the Hurricanes was the velcro running all the way down to the sole of the shoe. For me, velcro picks up lint and fluff all the time and having that huge amount of excess ‘hook’ portion of velcro is not a good thing. I am certain that after a short time that would be just a mass of stuff picked up and stuck to the ‘hook’ velcro segment that is left exposed.I found, however, that for me the Katavi were more comfortable than the Hurricanes because of the extra strap padding and the mesh and padded panels. Because I don’t need them for water, the Katavi made better sense. There was virtually no exposed velcro for them when they were adjusted to fit me - another plus.Hurricane 10 1/2 oz 295g (single mens 11)Here are the differences and comparisons of the various sandals (see photos):Weight of single sandal (size 11):Obern 383g (13 1/2oz)Toachi 343g (12oz)Katavi 308g (10 3/4oz)Hurricane 295g (10 1/2oz)Note that that the Katavi and Hurricane XLT weigh almost exactly the same, even though the Hurricane is billed as ultra-light and the Katavi not advertised as such so much by Teva. The four from top, side, tread are in review photos.Hurricane and Katavi had identical treads with different slightly foot beds. The shape and foot fit of the beds was virtually identical for the Hurricane and Katavi. The Obern was close, but had a higher arch support and was more rigid and felt a bit narrower at the middle foot. I felt the arch support too much on the Oberns. The Toachi in contrast had an extremely narrow tread and footbed and my foot could not even fit on it.All of these were size 11 in mens - but they fit very differently. The Hurricane and Katavi are the most similar, and the Katavi with the extra side mesh panels and suede material for the strapping was much more comfortable with and without socks. The material used for the Hurricanes was not nearly as comfortable and the expose rings added to that feeling compared to the Katavi. The Hurricanes, however, I expect would handle being wet better than the Katavi and dry faster.

Buy them
4.5stars.Buy these. I just came back from 12 weeks in Costa Rica. I wore them everyday. Literally everyday (except for 3 days in Monteverde, and one other day because I decided to wear my shoes. Break in period was quick. The straps never bothered me, but if worn tight they do rub some skin(didn't bother me, just noticeable). I hiked around Arenal, traversed pretty much the whole west and east coast. Swam in them. Climbed in them. Squatted 405 lbs for 3 reps at a gym in La Fortuna with them. Ran from the entrance at Manuel Antonio National park, all the way to playa Manuel Antonio beach and back in 12mins(roughly just under a mile each way). Carried a drunk friend on my shoulders from main drag Puerto Viejo to Rocking J's in them. Rode bikes, dirtbikes, and mopeds in them. Ziplined in them. Even got a job at a restaurant and wore them daily, serving drinks and making drinks in them. Needless to say, after all that abuse, they held up. Quite comfortable too. They run a half size large. When walking through streams and rivers I really strapped them tight. They slip a little on algae. Only reason not 5stars is the Velcro is starting to come undone slightly. But for the average person they'll be fine. I really abused these things and they held up. I was impressed.

My favorite footwear
I love Teva's. I purchased my first pair back in 1998 to take with me on a trip to South East Asia. As part of the trip, I went to Java in Indonesia and on a spur of the moment decision decided to climb the volcano Mount Merapi. As I didn’t bring any hiking boots and the tennis shoes I did bring were low on tread, I elected to go on the climb with some trepidation with my new Tevas. We got picked up at 5am in the morning and drove an hour to reach the base of the volcano at 6am. I think the sun just began to peak over the horizon as we started our climb. The guide thought I was a complete fool as did most of the rest of those on the climb who were made up of hardcore European hiking fanatics with serious boots. We ascended the steep slippery mountain terrain in some places literally pulling ourselves up the mountain side by grabbing the trunks of the vegetation. With my Tevas, I managed to keep up without killing myself. A hiker in our group told me I should send a letter to Teva when I returned to tell them how the sandals held up as he was quite impressed.Since then I have purchased 5-6 pairs of Tevas and wear them until their soles wear out. The one thing I notice is my original Tevas which I still have have never worn out. I think the tread has separated from the sole, but overall the tread is in good shape and if I took them to a shoe repair place they would be rather decent when professionally glued back together. New pairs of Tevas don’t last as long as the old ones I purchased. I believe Teva has reduced the price to drive sales, but in reducing the price has also reduced the quality. Still, given how comfortable they are and that they remain fairly durable, I remain a loyal and satisfied customer.

Great, comfortable!
Great and comfortable. I'm usually an 11/11.5 depending on fitting. The 12 is a little large, but what I would expect from a size 12. Very comfortable
