KOHLER K-9110-VS Air Gap Body with Cover, Vibrant Stainless

This was the perfect match with the other Kohler kitchen fixtures in the same finish. Very nice, modern look.

My previous air gap started to leak. i was leery of replacing it with a plastic unit, but i didn't want to spend 100 dollars on a copper unit that i would have to sweat into place. This is plastic, seems to be durable. the cap is brushed nickel and looks good. Installation was a breeze, it fit my sink perfectly. my only complaint is the gasket. The gasket is some sort of foam, i wasn't happy with it, so i punched some rubber gaskets for it. that isn't to say it wouldn't work fine. overall this is very affordable, easy to install, and looks good.

The product does what new plumbing codes require. While I would still rather not have to put a hole in my $$$ countertop, updated codes now require this airgap piece for dishwasher install and there aren't a lot of options that exist out there that are not an eyesore. If code requires you to have this, then I'd recommend this product. The brushed nickel finish was a good match to the Moen faucet we installed. Visually this looks nice on the counter though it is really difficult to keep clean. After 2 years, the interior is pretty nasty and cleans up okay with a good soak. Cleaning the plastic portion beneath the stainless shell requires leaving a soapy rag over it for a bit to let it soak as well before wiping off the gunk. Because it stays mostly hidden its hard to remember to clean regularly and as a result gets really gross really fast.

I first bought from Amazon Marketplace but the air gap package sent did not include the metal cover. Someone purchased, removed the metal cover, and returned the plastic parts for credit. Shame on them and Amazon for reselling! Reordered at full price. Only purchased the Kohler air gap for the stainless steel cover that matches the Kohler faucet I just purchased. In reality brushed nickel looks like Kohler's stainless so my advice is to shop around. Nothing special about the plastic piece in this package.

I am writing this review because I had purchased a Delta Charmaine faucet from Home Depot. I was concerned about two things: Would the cover actually cover up the white part that you see on the bottom of the air gap AND, would this air gap match my faucet. The answer is YES to both of my questions. I have an older style (about 24 years old white tile inset type sink that can only be replaced by replacing the entire countertop - yes lucky me). So, I had to replace the faucet and was concerned that the stainless steel would look ok with my white tile/sink/white tile counter top AND match the actual color of the chrome faucet (which I highly recommend). My older style kitchen sink has three holes for the faucet (the Delta Charmaine comes with the cover) and the holes are a bit larger than the newer sinks. I was not sure if this air gap would fit. It does! Just line it up from the top, etc. and it does cover up the ugly white portion. This air gap is the only one I've found that actually covers up the white part. I highly recommend.
