Surprised!
I gave this Maries set to my niece on Christmas and I am extremely pleasantly surprised how well these paints performed when I watched her paint. I bought the set on a whim when I decided to try watercolor. It sat in the drawer of my computer desk unopened and unbeknownst to me that it would actually be a great set. I recently painted with my niece and these paints are vibrant, great in quality, and they spread nicely on wet on wet application which I didn’t expect. There’s a huge selection of colors to experiment with and a lot of paint in each tube which gives you a great amount of value. This set has also gone up in price since I purchased them. They are an excellent set to start off with! I bought the set months before Christmas and they’ve held up very well- no hardening! I highly recommend these! I may actually just buy another set for me.

Great bargain for the money
I Just starting using gouache. I’m mainly paint with acrylics. I did use some with my nephew and niece and they loved it. I haven’t used this brand. I’m looking forward to using it. I love the variety of colors and the price is reasonable. If your. A beginning artist it’s always best to start with less expensive brand first. I wouldn’t recommend the jelly gouache as I read the reviews that if you’re not going to use it often mold will grow. However tube paints last longer and are less like to mold and you control the amount of paint on the palette.

Surprisingly enjoyable to use
I find these paints surprisingly enjoyable to use. I hadn't used gouache much since art school over 50 years ago and decided to get back to using the medium. These were less expensive and had a good selection of colors so I decided to try them. My only problem with them is the lightfastness rating is not listed. But I guess that is to be expected with a lower priced gouache. They thinned down nicely for a watercolor like start and then were opaque enough for later layering. I have since moved on to more lightfast paints, but these were a really great starter set.

These paints are so worth it. Not only affordable but they come in a wide variety of hues. Will definitely purchase again!

They are not so good. They're more translucent than opaque, and dry very quickly.
They are like acrylics...they are thick. That's what I can said about this gouche. I'm new to this media, I work with watercolors, soft pastels, colored pencils and acrylics. This media, for me, are very strange, because I don't understand them yet. I thought, that may be they were like watercolors, but it is not. It's totally different than the watercolor. They dry so fast in the pallet, when you mix each other, you can't achieve vibrancy, the whites are no good, no opaque, you need to use more and more white paint, and water for trying to do something. I hate the yellow...it's translucent!!! I don't know...I think, you need to buy more quality gouche to start with this media. Because, you can practicing, and trying to understand this gouche, but when you can't get beautiful results, you were going to be very frustrated. So, don't buy this gouche. They don't have lightfastness, yes, they're none toxic, but they don't have light fast, like said personal of Jerry's Arterama, the ASTM D-4236 it means the standard procedure of the information about the products, or the quality of the products, not the ightfastness range. I'm very disappointed about this gouches😔

Very nice. Will buy again.
Was skeptical about the price but saw that Amazon had it for cheaper than local art shop Jerry’s artarama I took a chance and was surprised. It’s a nice gouache for beginners and those who like to paint on the go. I was able to put these in air tight container and they lasted and were nice in building. From thin to opaque. Will def look to buy more as the tubes go quick if you paint a lot. Pairs nicely with Turner gouache.

You won't be satisfied if you are searching for fairly good but cheapish paints to start working in gouache. These aren't even close to what you would expect from gouache. Some of them have weird, oily finish (gouache are suppose to be completely matt), it's also pretty hard to achieve clean, even surface. Some of the colors are pretty nice, but in my set Burnt Umber is completely dried out in the tube so I will probably have to cut it to even be able to use it. I recommend buying less paints but better quality, like Winsor and Newton designers gouache instead of going for Marie's paints.
