Dawn of the Arcana, Vol. 5 (5) Paperback – Illustrated, August 7, 2012

Dawn of the Arcana is addictive shojo goodness. Volume 5 is no different. I love the growing romance between Caesar and Nakaba; they are adorable together. Nakaba and Loki have a good familial relationship as well, though I can see it turning a bit weird. This volume gets a bit darker by introducing the twisted nature of Caesar's brother, Cain. I am 30 years old, way outside the age range this series is suggested for, yet I love it.

Absolutely adore all the characters and how the plot builds, highly recommend!I can’t wait to read the next book.

Reader's Notes:- this is part of a series and should be read in order-there is some fantasy violence/death/killing & discrimination/prejudice against specific peoples (the ajin - people with some animal features and strengthened senses)Review:It's been a few months since I read Vol. 4 so I'm not 100% sure I knew about Caesar's brother or not, but he definitely made some of the events in this installment more interesting! I'm curious as to why his brother's life was changed in the way it was and what Caesar was thinking in the moment(s) Nakaba flashed back to. I'm wondering if everything was actually ow it looked or if Caesar had different intentions.

The action definitely picks up in this volume as we arrive at the Ajin village, only to be turned away. For Nababka, this volume has her learning a great deal. Not only is she not the only Arcana holder, they come in many types. The hard lesson, is realizing that no matter how hard she tries, the cost for using her Arcana may be more than she bear, as a price may be paid by those around her.Perhaps, the best volume so far.The extra at the end is two chapters of the characters in a modern day school setting. It's cute but a bit jarring to go from one setting to another :-)
