A bit skeptical after reading the reviews, but decided to give it a try anyway. I was not disappointed at all, but very satisfied with the antique design and how it works. It does do the job. Buying one more for hubby.

Just what I was looking for

Bought this as a cheap compass for a friend to get simple direction.The cover/case release button fell off in my hand when I opened the package.Unless held perfectly level it does not function.The case is quite nice and slides easily in and out of pocket, like an old style pocket watch, but that's the only good thing about it. Functionally useless. I realize that this is an expensive piece, not intended for serious use, but you'd be better off keeping track of where the sun rises and sets for East and West than trying to depend on this.
