Great kick peddle.
Great sound and it is also touch sensitive. I use it while playing my guitar and singing at senior centers. My foot is already tapping out the tempo so I might as well put it to work. It helps to keep my percussionist in tempo. She tends to speed up on exciting songs and this gives her a steady beat to follow along with and lets her get creative. Nice addition to a two piece band.

Flimsy and underwhelming
Underwhelming. Caused static in my audio, it's made of cheap plastic, slides around all over the floor, and the sound is garbled.Probably lots of fun for a child or a someone learning to play and tap their feet at the same time, but I would never bring this to a live gig.

Ortega's Horse Kick has a gimpy leg
The Horse Kick Pro is a digital percussion pedal that works with a battery or plugged into an AC outlet. It has some good features and some that are not so good. The same can be said about Ortega Guitars, the company that makes it.On the plus side, of the 5 sounds the product can produce, 4 of them are very good. There are 2 bass drum sounds (one seems to be a bit deeper and louder), a cow bell, and a shaker. The bass drums sounds are fine, the shaker is perfect for quieter songs or ballads. The cow bell gets old fast, regardless with what cries for "More cow bell". It would help if the cow bell alternated with one of the other sounds instead of just constant cow bell for a whole song. Also the tambourine sound is pretty much useless because you don't hear the jingles enough, mainly just the thud of the "skin" of the tambourine. Too bad because a tambourine that had more jingle to it would really be a big plus. Then there's the fact that you have to hit the pedal very accurately to make it work right. If your foot is off by a fraction of an inch it makes a big difference in the volume. It has a pretty narrow target area and therefore at times, no sound comes out of it at all. That's a problem.Customer support is a mixed bag also.On the plus side, the first Horse Kick they sent me did not work at all. That's a PLUS? Wait, there's more, customer support was kind enough to accept a return in exchange for a different one. However, when I wrote to them about my critique of their product they did not respond to me in any way shape or form. I think that constructive critique from a professional musician should be of interest to them.

Don’t Gimme This Bass
UPDATE: Reviewed this in 2016 - Since then I’ve found the pedal to be ineffective and not durable. AC connector came loose and fell inside, followed by a loose wire. Fixed and it’s working again but I’ve moved on to another pedal. The Wazinator is my choice. Done. Can’t recommend the Horse Kick. It's not perfect but it does deliver the bass effect I was looking for. The other effects bring little to my party and would suggest a snare effect be added. Also recommend you run it into its own channel for better volume control as I'm not impressed with the built in volume control when you use it with other pedals daisy chained. Should be a $99 item

Inconsistent - unreliable ... unless used firmly on a hard surface
The media could not be loaded. Love the looks, love the sounds ... it just doesn't work consistently. Tapping evenly in the same spot, sometimes it triggers the sound, and sometimes it doesn't. Makes it unusable. I contacted the manufacturer by email a week ago but got no response. UPDATE - I heard back from the manufacturer who suggested tapping more firmly and using it on a hard surface - and that seems to work. I had been trying to use it barefoot on carpet, and then it would only trigger about 75% of the time.

Awesome sound
Competitive pricing on Amazon. Great quality. Comes loaded with several different sounds to “kick.” Sounds great through the amp and super easy to use.

Very disappointed product returned.
I should have taken the prior reviews more seriously before making this purchase. Those reviews were very accurate. This stomp pad has a very inconsistent stomp area and skips more stomps than it delivers, even with different soled shoes. The tone is very artificial and the angle of the stomp pad was working shin exercises. Not comfortable at all. I eagerly waited for this product to arrive and after unpacking, It was a total let down. It arrived today and returned tomorrow. I would not recommend this item. Great concept though. The rest of the featured tones responded in the same manner.
