I wish there was a better option
Ok but not great, I wish there was a better option for POE WiFi 6 access points in this price range. Speeds seem good enough but when it loses power the settings are reset and you must re-configure. You can back up your settings to make the restoration quicker but the backup requires a password and you aren't allowed to use special characters in the password. What?? NO SPECIAL CHARACTERS IN YOUR PASSWORD??? Maybe that could be patched with a firmware update? Perhaps. It came with V9.6.0.7 and the latest version is 10.5.0.14 but it refuses to update. The "Upgrade Now" button fails and manually downloading the tar gives a "Select a valid firmware file format." *shrug* I guess I'm stuck with outdated firmware. The UI itself looks good at first glance but the banner over the top covers the "Configuration" menu when the window isn't full screen. My last complaint is it doesn't come with a PoE injector. I know I just missed that in the description so it is on me but other similar access points come with one and if you don't have the correct version for this unit it doesn't broadcast at full power.

Works Brilliant !
The media could not be loaded. Really easy to install and set up with my iPhone having registered and downloaded the NETGEAR app.I really like the clean lines of it - no aerials or other bits sticking out of it - some others brands looks like they came from a Star Wars movie !I made a bracket for it to mount on so it’s not intrusive.I’m no geek but sure you connect it to a POE ( Power over Ethernet) cable - NETGEAR sell these which you hook up directly to your router. This is how it’s powered up.Our garden is 160 long and it beams the WI-FI signal out perfectly. I would think the signal extends well beyond this.As a test, I streamed a movie from Apple TV. It streamed perfectly just like inside the house.Would highly recommend this .

Wired backhaul is not supported
If you are planning on using this as a mesh setup be aware that wired backhaul is not supported. Other Netgear units have that capability but lack the outdoor or the POE option. This made no sense to me at all, but was confirmed by Netgear tech support. Quote: "The "mesh" network will be provided by instant wifiinstant mesh is for access points not connected with cables", doubly strange as these units are POE only so there's always a network cable involved in the installation. I am returning this unit and the 2 indoor equivalents that I hoped to build a solid mesh network with. Without the wired backhaul the wifi speed was dismal, because the root unit is behind brick walls and that's a bottleneck, and with the mesh mode turned off the units interfere with each other and moving between them with a client device is clunky (the original issue I wanted to solve by upgrading to this).

One year later
I have been using this for almost a year . It works well in direct line of sight . I have it about 20ft from the ground and it covers a good portion of my yard . I have water front property with a tiered concrete wall and patio area. The signal is definitely impacted when I am in the lowered tiered section so it appears the signal radius is rather symmetrical meaning it does not conform to major changes in the topography.I was not pleased with the performance after first buying this product as I have the matching and compatible same unit but indoor only version WAX610. Both are connected to a netgear insight supported Poe switch . I will say the products are working together on the same network now significantly better than when I bought them and I am now very pleased with the seamless connection/hand off and performance. My guess is the product was buggy when newly released and netgear has pushed several updates . I do believe they are constantly collecting data via insights and improving the product.
