So much power in a such a small package
I was hesitant to purchase this code reader as I had bluetooth "dongle" type readers before and they do give trouble codes and live data but they are limited. I was looking for a new handheld unit to diagnose my personal vehicles. As I researched modern code readers I discovered that "bi-directional" analyzers were very desirable because they let you reset certain functions when replacing mechanical parts like replacing brake pads or throttle sensors. Functions needed are vehicle specific, so not all bi-directional functions are used on all vehicles. Most handheld scanners that can do these functions cost over $600 and require a yearly fee to upgrade. This is just too much for the average backyard mechanic. Then I discovered the XTool A30M. This is a bi-directional tool with 21 Functions. It works with many vehicle models. Not only does it read powertrain information, it does all systems like braking and SRS systems. This is a professional level tool rivalling an OEM analyzer. Upgrades are easily available through the app and are free for the life of the unit. E-mail support from XTool is fantastic! I sent e-mails to XTool with my needs, questions, and vehicle information and I regularly received good solid answers in less than 24 hours and sometimes as soon as 12 minutes.I received the A30M quickly and loaded the app on both an Ipad and an Android tablet. The only real complaint I have is that the app is HUGE! After loading the app, I would recommend updating only the vehicles and functions you are planning to use. The reason the app is so large is because it is where all of the power of the A30M resides. The app is continually updated and improved.I have tried the unit with two U.S. vehicles (Ford Truck and a Jeep Patriot) and it works very well. The level of diagnostic information I can obtain is staggering, even a little overwhelming. It is comforting to know that if I need to see in depth data on any of my vehicles, the A30M can retrieve it for me.I am very happy with the value of the A30M functions and XTool product support before and after the sale. I would definitely recommend it.

Easy to use once you get there....
Starting with the bad....no instructions come with so I had some issues getting signed into it and then some. At the sign in, it said the S/N was wrong but once I added numbers to my password(through minutes of trial and error and lots of re-typing), it worked fine although it didn't tell me there was a criteria for the password. I had even emailed xtool but that just took additional time.Don't expect to use this straight out of the box, it took a little bit to download and update everything too. I recommend only downloading the vehicle brands that you plan to use it on, you can download the others later as you need them. Just for reference, I have the app on my phone and with the updates, special services, and one brand, it used 202MB of space.I then had a little issue with the bluetooth but it is probably my own fault. I was trying to connect my phone to the plug in but it wasn't even showing up on my list. I then realized that the unit automatically connected to my truck radio or my garage stereo.....so make sure no other "open" bluetooth items are out there when you first try to connect this.So far as I can tell, the unit does not save your vehicle specs at all and you have to pick your specs every time you go into a different section of the app so each time I had to click, 2006, chevy, silverado, and then adjust 5 to 6 drop down boxes. This gets annoying quick. The good.....works as noted in the description, at least with few functions that I have tried. When I did email xtool about signing in, they were pretty quick to respond each time (thanks Elsie)I like the app itself, it is straightforward and walks you through the steps needed between the app and physical work on the vehicle.Price! I should have bought this on cyber monday ($44 cheaper) but the regular cost is still worth it.Edit 11/30 - After letting them know about the sign in issue, they have already updated the software to correct it (fixed in less than a days time)!
