What is there difference between black and black - new? I am concerned that one might be used and I want a new one.

“Black new” is a revised/upgraded design. They changed the lid screen to a more durable all-metal construction. The old design used a partially plastic screen which was prone to breaking.

Is there any plastic or silicone that comes in contact with water? Thank you. (other glass kettles tend to have silicone rings in them)

There is a food-grade silicone ring between the glass and stainless steel bottom. The silicone material is actually the same material used in baby bottles, so it is completely safe! Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Is there a silicon or other soft plastic seal at the very bottom that comes into contact with the water?

As far as I can tell by look and feel, there is a seal between the glass walls and the metal bottom that seems to be silicon or other soft plastic. It is just around the edge and the amount in contact with the water is tiny, but it's at the bottom where the vigorous boiling occurs so it could be a problem for you if this is an allergy situation.

Question to cosori: why do i see on my checkout a prop 65 warning about lead for this product? it’s not true that ca requires all products to have it

Electric cords often contain lead as a stabilizer for the PVC plastic insulation material. You will see many extension cords with the California warning, so I suspect it is the cord that is the source of the Prop 65 warning for this electric kettle. After handling the cord it would be best practice to wash hands with soap to avoid transferring any lead to food or your mouth. The same is true for many extension cords and electrical cords. Young children are the most susceptible to lead poisoning, so they should not be touching or playing with electrical cords. Some electrical cords are lead-free but many still have lead and the presence or absence of a Prop 65 label is not always a reliable way of telling the difference.
