Perfect for sourdough starter - finally something pretty enough to leave on the counter
I bought this Weck 745 tulip jar specifically for my sourdough starter after keeping it in an ugly plastic container for way too long. Best decision I've made for my baking setup. The wide mouth is a game-changer for feeding. I can easily get my hand in with a spatula to scrape down the sides and mix in the flour and water without the weird wrist angles I was doing with a narrow-mouth mason jar. The tulip shape (narrow at the neck, wide at the opening) means I get the benefits of a wide mouth without needing a massive jar taking up counter space. The glass is thick and high-quality - feels substantial, not flimsy. I can see my starter's rise and bubble activity clearly through the sides, which is helpful for timing my bakes. After a month of daily feedings, it's been through the dishwasher at least 15 times with zero issues. Here's the thing though: this is JUST the jar. No lid, no gasket, no clips. For a starter, that's actually fine - you don't want an airtight seal anyway. I just rest a small plate on top to keep dust out. But if you're expecting the full Weck preservation system, you'll need to buy those components separately. The size (745 model) is ideal for maintaining about 200g of starter. Not so big that it takes up half my counter, not so small that it overflows during an active feed. Honestly, it's nice having something attractive enough that I don't feel the need to hide it in a cabinet. My starter lives on the counter now and actually looks intentional. If you're tired of keeping your starter in random takeout containers, this is worth the upgrade. Only reason it's not getting used for actual canning is because I didn't realize the sealing components were sold separately. But for starter storage? It's perfect as-is.

Lovely little Weck jar
This Weck jar is so versatile and beautiful! Definitely for a glass storage container connoisseur! I originally bought it to ferment my sourdough. But after using it, I plan to buy other ones for my sauerkraut and vegetable ferments, beverage ferments such as rumtoph, etc.. This size is perfect for small families, small kitchens, and limited storage area. These jars would make beautiful storage for snacks, crafts, almost anything one can think of. They seal easily and tightly with a glass top and rubber ring that is kept in place with metal clips. It appears the rubber ring will be easy to replace when it gets worn as it is not made with very thick rubber. A lovely smooth wooden top with a silicone fitting attached for suitable sealing of contents came with the jar. It is worthwhile to to research the Weck brand, and usage. Home canners will appreciate their value.

Multi use weck tulip jar with wooden lid option
Perfect for sour dough starter. Wooden lid is perfect for other uses - sugar container or whatever you choose. Weck jars are durable and easy to clean. It arrived sooner then expected- ended up buying 3 more as I loved it so much!

It is as great as everyone says it is
I really love this jar and I can see why it is popular. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the rubber piece and the clasps that keep the glass lid on so I just removed it and it works great as a bulking jar for my starter. That’s said, I don’t actually hate the rubber piece or the clasps a as much as I thought I would and think the design is functional and will use it as intended when needed. I like that this also came with a wooden lid, but I haven’t used it yet either. I like buying things that have multi-uses and this is a great buy.

Best sourdough jar
Purchased this as a jar for my sourdough starter. I love both the glass and wood top. It’s the perfect size for feeding the starter - enough room. The seal works well, but for my purpose I don’t seal the top. The shape is beautiful and unique

Almost hits the mark
It's a very nice jar for sourdough starter, but I can't give it five stars. When I spend $20+ on a jar, I have high expectations. The jar itself is great - it's glass, large, has a nice shape and a stylish look. Where it comes up short is the lid. It should have a nice solid lid and sturdy gasket and a locking mechanism attached to the lid. Instead, it has a cheap, thin gasket that will probably fail sooner than later. The clips are a huge pain - they are flimsy, not easy to affix to the lid, and since they are not attached to lid, are easy to drop or lose. I will keep it for now since it's a much better alternative to mason jars, but will probably look for a better option at some point.

I really do like this jar. It’s very thick, solid, good quality glass and just the perfect size to store my sourdough starter. However I paid a little extra to have both the glass lid and the wooden lid and the wooden lid quickly warped. Unsure why, it’s only been used to store my sourdough starter on the counter and in the fridge. It’s rarely been wet.
