A nice intro to not only eating a whole-foods diet, but also adopting a healthier lifestyle
A friend of mine who knows I'm interested in nutrition/wellness books recommended this to me. I hadn't heard of the author Meghan Telpner before my friend recommended it, but it sounded like it would be right up my alley, and it definitely is! If you're new to a whole-foods diet, this would be a great book to get since Meghan explains all the reasons why eating in such a way -- what she calls an UnDiet -- is beneficial.Based on the title and sub-title of this book, I bought this thinking that it would be a cookbook; however, it's not so much of a cookbook as it is a book that outlines how to make changes in your diet and life. The chapters are broken down by topics such as the benefits of eating real (not processed) foods, drinking water, giving up caffeine, cooking more, doing meal/recipe planning, setting better habits, cutting back on your trash/environmental waste, and storing your food in safer ways. The one thing I didn't like is that the recipes are scattered throughout the book without any kind of rhyme or reason, making them a bit more challenging to find. There are 35 of them, and each chapter ends with maybe three or four recipes that have no correlation with what the previous chapter was about. At the end of the book there is an index and a meal plan to help you sort through the recipes and find what you need, but I personally find it easier to have them all located in one place.I had also been expecting the recipes to be vegan not only because my friend who recommended it is vegan (as am I), but also because the use of "plant-based" in the title led me to expect the same thing, so I was surprised to see that some recipes call for eggs. I'm not marking my review down for this, but it did surprise me a bit since most plant-based nutritionists focus on not eating animal products. In the introduction to the book, Meghan wrote a sentence that really resonated with me: "The way I see it, the UnDiet lifestyle is a bit like yoga -- it is a practice. All we can do is just keep practicing, hopefully getting a little better every day, as we continue to learn new things and incorporate a little more into our lives." The idea of not being perfect and of easing into a healthier lifestyle is such a terrific way to approach these changes. Instead of beating myself up if I eat something "bad," I usually try instead to remember that each step I take towards nourishing my body is a step in the right direction.Overall, Meghan's upbeat attitude is fun, and I like this book a lot! Even if you already have a good knowledge of plant-based eating under your belt, this book still gives good tips about meal planning, goal-setting, etc. that made it worthwhile for me. If you're new to this lifestyle, then this would provide a good foundation for you.If you're interested in plant-based cookbooks, I'd recommendย The Beauty Detox Foods: Discover the Top 50 Beauty Foods That Will Transform Your Body and Reveal a More Beautiful You , Let Them Eat Vegan!: 200 Deliciously Satisfying Plant-Powered Recipes for the Whole Family , Forks Over Knives - The Cookbook: Over 300 Recipes for Plant-Based Eating All Through the Year , andย Practically Raw: Flexible Raw Recipes Anyone Can Make .

Really Enjoyed this Book!
I only recently have heard of Meghan Telpner when the Oh She Glows website was having a give away with Meghan's book. After looking through it on Amazon I bought it right away and finished it in a couple of hours. I just really liked it. The last couple of years I have been reading alot of books about health but just couldn't get myself to make lasting changes. Pretty much just ended up knowing enough to feel guilty whenever I made the "wrong" choices. Cooking is one of the things I really don't like to do so I appreciated her chapter on meal prep. I have tried in the past to prepare meals on Sunday for the week, but got pretty tired of spending my whole Sunday preparing meals that I knew only the hubby would eat not the kids. This last Sunday I used her idea of prepping ingredients insead of whole meals. After getting home from the store and first throwing out all the rotten stuff in the fridge, I washed and cut up all the veggies I had just bought. I labeled everything and now I can see exactly what I have to work with. Veggies are cut up for kids to have for snacks and lunches and quick dinner prep.. I have hardly anything in the refrigerator drawers so that should cut out the rotting food I don't remember buying. I actually three heads of lettuce hiding. At the end of the week whatever I don't use is going into a soup. I also really needed the reminder about reducing the toxic load we are consuming through pre-packaged foods and personal care products. I really looked around my house and just saw lots of "waste" in the form of packaging and food loss. Anyway, I am rambling! I really recommend this book. She does not preach that you should be vegan or even vegetarian just encourages you to look at what you are putting into your body and that fresh whole food is best.

Undiet is an inspiring mix of new and known information on a healthy lifestyle!
First off, let me just say I never review anything, so the fact that I'm reveiwing "Undiet" says a lot!I really like Meghan Telpner's approach to health. I don't agree with EVERYTHING she says, but I don't think you'll ever find a writer on this topic with whom you agree completely. A lot of what Telpner says here is helpful and inspiring though! I'm making small changes gradually based on this book and will probably try the 8 week challenge soon. This book is a combination of new information, common sense tips, and empowering chat from Telpner. I would recommend it to anyone who needs some inspiration and guidance to improve their lifestyle. Like the title says, it's not about "going on a diet" but improving your overall health and lifestyle.Note: I read this on the kindle and didn't have much trouble (other reviewers mentioned the kindle edition being kind of glitchy); there were a few places where side bar info ran over onto other pages but aside from that it was easy to read. I do want to pick up a hard copy soon for easy reference though.

Game-changer
This book has transformed my life...for the good. I would highly recommend anyone to read it back-to-back. It is the only "cook-book" I have come to rely on so greatly and wanted to make every single recipe (and I have plenty of cook books!). I use it at least a couple of times every week, although I have already memorised several recipes I now make regularly. It is not solely a book of recipes, however, full of valuable advice and tips on how to improve your health and lifestyle. It is not dictatorial but makes suggestions about how to make little changes, the best you can, leaving you fully wanting to get on board and fully capable of doing so. Get this book!

Recommended To All.
I have been an amateur student of healthier food since the 1970's and this book has the most current information on the subject that I have found in a single volume. Lots of common sense approaches , not a fad at all , just sound advice and guidelines. Even if you don't adopt all of her recommendations , picking and choosing from the available info will improve your life/health , and perhaps give a longer life with improved quality of life. Nutritional science has come a very long way in recent years and everyone could use a refresher course ; here it is in a single volume which is entertaining and easy to read. Recommended to anyone that will listen to me ; I bought a copy for my daughter and niece !

Your next coffee table book
UnDiet is a beautiful book with simple suggested actions that anyone can do. UnDiet is so much more than a diet or 'un-diet'. It's not just about the food, it's about lifestyle; sleeping and moving and breathing and flossing and having a good bowel movement and exercising your creativity and bonding with nature and thinking positively. The chapter about natural body care and home care is reason enough to buy the book. There's a chapter about environmental issues that begins with the story of a landfill. Of course our affect on the world around us reflects back at us. Most "diet" books aren't this inclusive.Informative and honest, Ms. Telpner author acknowledges that you've got to listen to your intuition and decide what's best for you. She's there to guide you and give you information but you need to take from it what you need.I read it on iPad before I got the paper version and as good as the screen resolution is, I've decided that UnDiet needs to be read on paper, in all its beauty. The colours and the photos seem to pop off the page.

Soooo informative ... love it
Love this book. Very helpful, especially when conventional medicine says diet doesn't affect health. I like how the author shares her personal story. And you can't tell she's done her diligence in researching what she teaches and talks about. I strongly recommend this to everyone whether you have an illness or want to keep one at bay and prevent any possible diseases in your genes.
