Pretty pricy for what it is. Dose the job well though. I don’t think you need this if your bms has temp protection and you trust it. Doesn’t hurt to have some redundancy. If your LiFePo bms doesn’t have temperature protection, this is a must have. Bmv 712 tells the Victron charger the battery temp so it will cut the charging off if the temp is too low or high. The bmv 712 can also cut off loads when the temp is too high or low via its relay settings. Under normal operation the temp should be pretty close to ambient air temp, so as a bonus, you get a remote thermometer to where ever your batteries are. My only regret is not getting this sooner. You can’t have too many data points.

Works with Victron IP65 Smart Shunt. Shunt manual clearly illustrates how to install. The Victron Connect app recognizes the temp sensor and displays the temperature clearly. Modern Lithium based batteries are temperature sensitive for charging (above 0 degrees Celsius) and discharging (above -20 degrees Celsius). This sensor along with the IP65 smart shunt allows this to be easily monitored

Works perfectly with Victron SmartShunt, even though the label says it is for the 702 or 712 battery monitors. What the label is trying to say is that it is not for the Cerbo or other Victron items. The Victron documentation for the SmartShunt does state that this optional temperature monitor will work.
