I doubt it. This is a great vest and easy to travel with but I would never leave my child unattended with this vest.

Q: What is the function of the unusual shape of this vest? It is different from most others. I'm worried the outer part will be in the way of arm movemnt

These vests are intended to be worn uninflated and only inflated when you get tired or in trouble. The straps (around the waist and shoulder to crotch) keep the vest close to the body and should not interfere with swimming. If the straps are too long for the person who will use the vest they may get in the way of swimming. I shortened mine. I've snorkelerd in the Philippines, in Italy, in Saint Maarten, near the military base in Cuba and Maui. I always wear the vest just in case.
