Same-scale maps on all pages makes planning easier
It's easier to estimate travel time at a glance when every map is the same scale. Sure, each state doesn't fit exactly within the confines of one page but who cares -- I'm driving cross country and really truly need to know how much bigger Montana is than, say, Ohio! Did you ever really notice the width of North Carolina? It's immense in the east-to-west direction. Here's an idea for you... I marked every page with 1-degree tall and 2-degree wide rectangles. I'm a ham radio operator and this identifies all the grid squares in the country. The attached picture shows my markings; the map doesn’t arrive this way. The same-scale maps are perfect for this purpose.

HEMA maps are best
For a road map, you cannot beat these HEMA maps. The spiral binding make it easy to use. The coating allow for extended use and some moisture barrier. They are large and easy to read, and include some smaller roads not found on other maps like Rand McNally. But, they have limitations...again I point out that it is a road map, not useful but for most paved roads. It will get you there, but then if you want more detail your have to use topo maps, or a GPS loaded with more detailed maps. That being said, I buy a new one of these each time they come out. I love maps!

Great for Interstate travelers!
Great prdouct! Read the description carefully before you buy this product because it is NOT a state by state Atlas. The best thing about it is that it connects the USA roads, page by page. This allows you to open to an area of the USA not just a state. In addition to that, the spiral spine ensures that this Atlas will last a long time with good care. Interstate travelers will like this better than those who only want to use it for in state navigation.

Good product, other reviews have some poor info
Wanted to do a quick review to dispel some of the reviews I skimmed beforehand. First off, yes, the maps are oriented horizontally across the US, but there is an overall map up front that shows the grid/number over the states so you can find the page you need to go to. And on each page on each side, there is a small number in a yellow circle which designates which map page to flip to (so if you are going north or south off the map, you'll see which page to go to that continues that direction). I thought the map may have more detail than a normal atlas, as of right now (minimal usage) it doesn't seem to, however it displays on... lets say 2 pages, what a normal atlas tries to do on one - so everything is much larger and easier to read, in my opinion. Up front there are about 9 specific national park maps. I think they are ok, but of course if you get to a NP the maps they give you will have more detail, be larger, etc. The ones up front are sorta basic info. I thought campsites would be better marked but they are about the same as a normal atlas, and you really have to go online, or purchase a map to a state, to get all the smaller campsites marked etc (I guess). The map pages are pretty durable, laminated pretty well, good longevity. Overall happy with this atlas.

I was a little disappointed in that it was hard to read and follow
Bought this for a trip I am planning. The cost was a little high but, I needed a well made and precise atlas. I was a little disappointed in that it was hard to read and follow. There were a lot of smaller towns and details that I found were missing and helpful for planning stops, etc. Not recommended.

Great map book for traveling!
This is an easy map book to use, and I enjoyed having it on our recent cross country trip. It is not a state by state book, but it connects the pages side by side, so you can simply follow the highways as you turn the page. Points of interest are noted and highlighted on each page, so a quick side trip is possible!

GPS needs help
Travel across country may not be great with gps especially if u want to avoid problem.cities. excellent .maps and arrangement of pages but some of the roads are not clearly visible on map. With the gps & map & watching the road signs it is a great way to avoid large cities while taking US highways to wherever

Worst map EVER!
Will return this as finally had a chance to use it to look something up the other day & my husband said " it's not alphabetical". I told him that's why I bought it because it goes state by state, from page to page so if you're driving from IL to CT, you just keep turning the page....My hubby pointed out that this atlas works ONLY if you are traveling east to west or west to east, so it's of no use if traveling north to south or visa-versa, as the states don't line up north/south/south/north. And, because it's not alphabetical, good luck trying to find the state you need.Horribly frustrating & will go back to Rand McNally...
