Don't get what all the hate on these pencils is for... I got a case of these to use this semester and they have not let me down. They're pre-sharpened which is a nice addition, but the point won't last more than a half hour unless you sharpen it more, so I would recommend sharpening them additionally out of the box. That said, I strongly recommend these pencils-- as somebody who for years of academia doomed to a fate of ten cent no-name pencils from the bargain bin during Back To School season at Staples, these are an incredible step up. The wood is comfortable and grips nicely. The erasers are of high quality and the lead itself makes writing enjoyable. The lead is moderately dark but can become almost black with some pressure. It's strong and long-lasting. While I've never gotten to try the "original" Black Warrior pencils, these are made in Mexico by Papermate and I must say they're the best pencils i've owned yet.

Awesome; nice soft, dark lead. Wood of pencil is good and solid. My first choice in a pencil, would recommend this pencil over any other, great for drawing. Sharpens well, erases well. Only experienced broken leads with pencils that were dropped, drummed with,(my fault), etc…

These pencils live up to the hype and are entirely worth the price. I'm currently taking a college math class and do a ton of pencil writing. My experience with crummy 'back-to-school' grade pencils left me in search of a better writing utensil. I have a very hard writing style- I tend to really press down on the paper and leave an indentation. During a four hour session of equations with ten cheap pencils, I would have around ten lead breaks minimum and around three sharpening sessions for all of the pencils. With the Mirado Black Warriors, the lead has NEVER completely broken, only the newly sharpened tip under .5mm, which left the pencil entirely usable. It's a much smoother write, and it dulls far, far slower than the store-bought off-brand. In comparison use time, I can use three Mirado Black Warriors with two sharpening sessions and not a single break. On the other hand, the eraser is average, not any better or worse than the store-bought generic pencils (but who buys a pencil for the erasers anyway?. I solved this by adding an eraser pencil-topper, which others have recommended to keep the round pencils from rolling off of the table. A box of forty of these toppers is .99 at the local store, so I have years of supply. The added cost is negligible. If you break down the durability and usability time of these pencils versus cheap generics from your local big-box store, they're actually cheaper. On my writing style being very hard, these pencils fatigue my hand much less than the store-bought pencils. Also as an added bonus, they have that nice cedar smell. Once my young son reaches a grade where pencils aren't a group item to be shared, I will be buying these exclusively for him, as I wish I had access to good pencils like this when I was in grade school. I would give them four and a half stars, losing half a star due to the so-so eraser, but since that is not available, I will give them a five because I tend to think they're as good as you can get in my experience. Buy the Paper Mate Black Warriors and you won't regret it.
