Trials of Nation Making: Liberalism, Race, and Ethnicity in the Andes, 1810–1910

I got this book for a class, but ended up reading the whole book anyway. Great read with excellent prose. Wonderful insight into the history of South America and how it developed along the lines of liberal ideology and Euro-centric racism.
