Aurorae Yoga Mats -- The Crème de la Crème of Yoga Mats!
I had arthroscopic knee surgery on my left knee in the summer of 1987, as well as arthroscopic knee surgery on my right knee in December of 2008. I had been exposed to yoga in past years but didn't really take it seriously. I made the decision to re-entered my journey into the world of yoga in 2009 and I became hooked! However, my knees were not as thrilled with my decision. I was bound and determined to find a way to bring peace and harmony to my entire being (including my knees) during my yoga practice. I purchased yoga mats from three different companies, only to be greatly disappointed. After my third purchase, I was so frustrated I came very close to making the decision not to practice yoga. After one of my evening yoga classes, I discussed with one of my yogi classmates my frustration in search for a yoga mat. I need thickness and length but, to my dismay, I had encountered only disappointment. She instructed me to broaden my search on the internet but the choices were so overwhelming to me. I decided to go on Amazon.com and take my chances. Aurorae Yoga Mats were one of my choices to investigate. I gravitated to Aurorae. The colors of the mats forced me to continue to investigate...so peaceful & calming. As my investigation continued, I knew this was the mat for me so I took my leap of faith and purchased one! I loved my first mat so much, a couple of months later, I ordered a second one! The ultra thickness is "perfect." The length is "perfect." I couldn't ask for a better mat. I toss my mat in the washer and put it on my patio chair to dry. No special care needed...normal routine cycle of washing. It has NEVER and I repeat NEVER held a foul order -- wet or dry. My mats retain their form after being washed and are like new. I've had both mats for at least 1-1/2 yrs. and I am completely satisfied. Aurorae is a fabulous company with fabulous products. If you suffer from knee problems, this mat is the mat for you and still enjoy your yoga practice! If you look for any other mat thicker than Aurorae mat, you will be greatly disappointed. You want a YOGA mat...not a GYM mat! Trust me, with an Aurorae yoga mat you can't go wrong. Namaste :-)

Great Mat
I had a lot of trouble deciding on a mat and after reading tons of reviews settled on this one. I practice every couple days, usually hot vinyasa, sometimes hatha. The mat is a pretty good length - I'm 5'9" and when extending my arms and legs for relaxation it's a bit short but other than that the length is good! I have a knee issue and it's cushy enough for my knees, although my hands and feet leave an impression in the mat for a second after moving them so if that bothers you you may want to avoid it. Like any mat it's not quite sticky enough on it's own but get a yoga towel and you'll be fine! All in all it's a great mat and the price is fantastic!Edit: After more use I'm much more used to the way in conforms to my hands and feet. I was sent the rosin bag and it really helps with slippage! Great company, Dennis is awesome!Namaste

My first real yoga mat
My other yoga mat was one that I had been using for several years and had been part of a beginning yoga kit. It had started to show wear and tear, so after reading reviews, I decided to try the Aurorae yoga mat. I LOVE it! It is very thick and well cushioned. I was hesitant to order it because of the price, but after using it, I think that the mat was worth every penny. I ordered it in the Seamist. Very pretty and soothing light green. The mat doesn't have any odor. I do like the icon at the top of the mat as it has given me a good focus point for crow pose. I haven't had any problems with slipping on this mat.Bottom line: Whether this is your first mat or 15th mat, I think this is a great mat at a good price.Update: (11 Dec 2012) This mat has a memory foam quality to it. Whenever you apply pressure to the mat, it morphs around the pressure point leaving a perfect indentation of whatever was pressing on it. For me, this has meant that I have been able to see how I am carrying my weight during my poses. This has helped me to readjust and, I think, get more out of my poses. For example, during triangle pose or warrior, I can tell whether or not I was rounding my feet or standing with my weight evenly distributed throughout my feet. Overall, it has just made me more conscious of how I carry my body. I thought this was worth sharing since I've noticed that no one else's mat in my class seems to do this. I love my mat!

Good mat but slippery
I purchased this item due to everyone's great reviews. It is a good mat but it is quite slippery. I've washed the mat repeatedly per the instructions using dish soap and a soft brush but that doesn't help too much. When I use the mat in class, my hands and feet slip and it makes doing the yoga poses very hard... especially for a beginner. The only way I can really use the mat now is to put the towel I also purchased from Aurorae over it. Now I'm even considering purchasing a different mat or a towel to place over my mat.I am giving it a 3 star rating because overall it is a good mat but the slippery factor makes it hard to use. The mat does not have any weird smells, it has great padding...I would recommend it for those who do usually use a towel or who don't sweat much.

Slip Galore
I read all the reviews of this mat before purchasing it. The majority were good and most of the negatives were regarding the degree of "slippage", if you will. Well, I took it brand new to my yoga class and slipped throughout the whole class. I really didn't think the slipping would be a problem for me because I'm very petite (barely weigh 90 lb) and also don't sweat much. But I could barely concentrate on the class or hold any poses/balance without slipping on this mat. I'd return it if returns weren't such a hassle. For now, I'm stuck with it. I may just use it around the house for sit ups. To be fair, the thickness of the mat is good but its marketed as a yoga mat and these mats simply should not slip!!
