I installed this when winter started and now it's spring. It throws off a surprising amount of heat! Definitely takes a chill off in this Old House of mine! All my guests think it looks great! And nobody commented on the glaire from the glass (a common complaint in other reviews)

We have had our insert for about three weeks now. I am really enjoying it. We have an old house with a small, unconventionally sized fireplace. The flu is not well designed and unless the fire is really blazing, like when it burns down to coals, smoke seeps out into the room. I have looked into many options like a fireplace insert or fireplace doors but because of the small size, odd dimensions and general construction none of those expensive options are even available to us. I was excited to find the Dimplex electric log insert. We do have a conveniently located outlet near the fireplace. The insert arrived very quickly with Prime. Setup was easy and just like that we had a fire. I must say I agree with most of the criticism of Mike C. The remote is pretty lightweight and has trouble at a long distance. In fact, using it across the room, about 12 feet sometimes partially turns it on but the flames get stuck. At first I bought the unit was defective but found if I use the remote closer this doesn’t happen. So we just keep the remote on the mantle. We have to remove a cover we keep over the fireplace anyway. The plexiglass screen is a little visible, although our living room is pretty dark so it isn’t very obvious unless you look for it. We have kept the ember screen in place, which obscures the unit. The ember glow is very realistic and the flames aren’t bad. We don’t always use the heat. For our small living room the low heat setting makes the room obviously cozier on cold mornings or evenings. The high setting would heat the room if we used it for that, but we have central heat for the house. Having the glow and flickering flames makes the room seem cozy with or without the heat. We can now have a fire at Christmas even if we have warm weather and hang the stockings without burning them. This is an ideal option for people who have old non-functional fireplaces. I love that I can push a button and have a cheery blaze; no wood, lighters, smoke, or shoveling ash. We can have that stuff in our outdoor fire pit.
