Built well, works great
If you need a cheap way to send serial command over IP, then this works great. It's built well, can act as either a server or a client, and works with Bitfocus Companion if you need that!

Great for older PLC's
Got this to work with an ALLEN BRADLEY SLC 5/04 PLC processor. Had to take it out of it's metal case because I did not have a Male to Female DB9 cable at the time. At first it wouldn't work because I had a null modem adapter between the usr and processor. The pinout in the manual for the usr led me to believe that i needed to flip flop the Rx & Tx lines. But after removing the null adapter, it worked. So either it was wrong, or the pinout for my PLC was wrong. I got it setup up on a static IP on my home network and can access it anywhere with anything (including VNC'ing into my server with a smartphone from work. I was able to go online with the PLC from 3 different computers at the same time even. It did take some time setting up the serial comms options so it's not a "Pull it out of the box, plug it in and it works" thing. If baud rate, parity, RTS, DF1, CRC, or packet size are foreign words to you, buy this at your own risk. Or actually, do buy it. If you don't know anything about how RS232 comms work, this would be a great learning tool. If it works on ALLEN BRADLEY'S proprietary DF1 protocol (which this thing does not know what that is and nothing else on this planet uses it), then it will work on anything.

Awesome little adaptor and exceptional value
I connected it up to an ancient lab moisture measuring instrument with a com port, connected the other end to my network, installed their software (Windows 10) and within a few minutes was reading data! I was stunned how simple it made dialing in the configs. Really excellent, easy to use software, solid hardware. This thing is going to solve a lot of interface issues for me as we digitize our older lab instruments.

For simple applications you might want to make your own RS232 server
Doesn't really work as a fixed IP remote 1200 baud RS232 port on a private net (IP 192.xxx.xxx).Initially we wanted was a way to control our KSU from any computer in our intranet. Ours is an electrical and mechanical engineering shop so it was easier to simply use an Arduino.Ultimately we ginned up an intranet server with a RS232 port using a $2 single chip Microchip MCU (see their app notes for a workable circuit and code) and surplus power supplies to centrally monitor and log the close to 40 machines and sensors around our shop.I suspect this device is designed as a stand alone network of similar interfaces. But the instructions are garbled and in the end it was faster for us to roll our own than figure out how to get this way more expensive interface to work as advertised.

Works well. documentation poor
Does what it says and appears reliable, but the documentation is very poor (come on guys, hire an English tech writer for a week). If you understand how such things work, you can easily overcome the documentation. But if you do not know the basics of serial transfer and TCP/IP - then best to get someone who does to assist you. Solves the problem at less than half to cost of other solutions.

Didn't work for my application
I got no response from my Agilent 34401A DMM. A Gearmo RS232 to USB worked for me.I never get RS232 to Ethernet devices to work - a general statement.

Fast and easy to use
I bought this unit as an experiment for a control project. It is easy to set up and control and you can change the settings on the fly. A very well thought out and well built product for a reasonable price. Prime shipping makes it even more enticing. I am very happy with this device.

Inconsistent operation.
My application was controlling an RS 232 HP 34970 data acquisition unit via ethernet. While I did get it to work, it never did yield a reliable connection. Perhaps I didn’t configure the software settings properly or maybe the hardware was defective. The documentation is difficult to follow, which is primarily due to the Chinese to English translation. Anyway, I ended up abandoning trying to make this work.
