I have used and loved Mexicalli Rose fat free beans for over 10 years. Actually the ONLY refried beans I buy!!!! Recently had to order thru another source. Price was 2x as much as I've paid in the past. Hopefully can find another supplier with reasonable pricing, as they are not available at retail near my location.

Good, but not good for backpacking
Good beans, but a poor choice for backpacking. The beans are good if you have unlimited heating options (a home stove). The cooking time is way to long for backpacking and even camping.

To die for
A few years ago I ran into these. They are great! For the life of me, I do not understand why refried black beans have not taken off here in Miami where I live. There already exists a strong black bean culture. This is a delicious taste of Yucatecan food without the fat. I will be ordering! By the way, the place I first tasted this served the mound of beans topped with a raddish rose. Striking presentation. I love the beans on a corn chip with salsa.
