Q: Does this record to the video file when attached to a camera, or is it recording an independent file that has to be synced with the video file in post

It does both if you want. When the receiver is attached to the Camera and plugged in to the relevant camera port then it wirelessly receives the sound from either or both the remote mics and embeds the sound within the camera audio. In addition the wireless mics can record to their own memory (that's an option) so you have a back up just in case say wireless signal gets interrupted. In that was you can easily sync. It's a great innovative product and very happy with it.

Q: Can the receiver be plugged into a PA system for live output to speakers?

Can't see why not, providing you PA system accepts a 3.5mm input. It comes with 3.5mm TRS and TRRS cables.

Q: Can i use two units at the same time to have 4 mics?

I believe the other answerer here is incorrect- the receiver most likely only receives 2 signals, I think it unlikely it will receive 4 mics simultaneously. You could always record them separately, but that is a different question.

Q: Can you connect more than two mic to the receiver?

No, the receiver can only connect to two mics but the mics can record onto inbuilt storage if you needed more than two, you'd then need to match the audio file up afterwards.
