Is this really a DC welder? It doesn't say anywhere in the description or specs..

It plugs into ac 110v or 220v (comes with an adapter). Yes it's a DC welder

Any stick welder can be a tig rig, but has anyone tried aluminium, is this a HF welder?

Hi, I assure you this welder is not junk. I have started to compile a list of items I have repaired using this item. I also built a 3 point reciever trailer hitch. I found an old set of huge bolt cutters in a burn pile that I threw away 5 years ago. I cleaned them up and was able to repair them instantly. I payed 50 dollars for those bolt cutters. Repaired items: Bolt cutters: 50 Trailer hitch :125 Clamp:25 This welder has already paid for itself in the first month of owning. I will be upgrading the cable and electrode holder eventually. After that, it will be perfect. The size of the unit is slightly larger than a loaf of bread

Can I plug this right into the outlet for my dryer? 220V? or does it have to run on 110?

No.. Well it depends on your drier plug outlet. Some adapters exist, in some configurations, and for some reason, some don't. It has a 120 adapter, but it's a 50amp. Chances are you don't have a 50 amp outlet. Your drier will be a much smaller variant at 15 or 20 amps. If you look through reviews you'll see some have constructed their own pigtail adapters for this reason, or else you'd have to swap your outlet to the 50 amp, and swap the plug on your drier too, just to plug in the welder, and you'd end up running something with a potential to draw 50 amps on 20 amp rated wire. Because we can see the amps we're pulling, we know what we're putting through the line. In short, make a pigtail adapter for the welder only, and don't run it for very long durations at high amperage, or you'll melt your cables. For lower it will be fine. For short duration it will be fine. In my case, I have a 6-30R outlet, and there's no 50 amp converter available in that combination, so I bought a 6-50R adapter, with 10 awg wire, and chopped the other end off, and attached my 6-30 plug to it. "Extension Cord Adapter 10-30P to 6-50R 30 Amp Dryer Male Plug to 50 Amp 1.5FT 10AWG". It's no different than any other configuration that will allow you to run a 50amp into a lower 30 or 20 amp circuit, only they don't make them. Price of plug and adapter, roughly 35 dollars.

Can it be used for plumbing

It is a welder for welding ferrous metal. If you are welding steel pipe it will work.
