Doctor Zhivago Soundtrack

Great Movie and soundtrack! No wonder why Mr. Jarre won the 1965 OSCAR for this soundtrack. His best soundtrack ever but i never seen Lawrence of Arabia so I might be unfair to that soundtrack.

I can't tell you how many times that I have watched Doctor Zhivago! I guess it's because of three things, the incredible story, the location where it was filmed, and the beautiful music score! From beginning, to end, you must not have any interruptions or you will lose the whole effect of the movie! Being a musician, the music transports me into that time, and makes me feel like I'm right there with Zhivago! I don't know why, it just does! Maybe it's because the music is so mystical, that it just draws you in. I have had the soundtrack of Doctor Zhivago on LP(vinyl) for many years now, and then I decided that I should definitely upgrade, and get it on CD! So I finally did, and it's bringing back all of those great memories that I had when I first started listening to it, but even better now!!! Thanks for being such a great place to shop, Amazon!!!

I like the additional scores in the DVD such as the jazzed up version at the end of "Laura's Theme." The remastered sound is excellent and the pamphlet explaining about how the whole musichorale was conceived and done was awesome..enriched my understanding...apparently the balalika players could only play by ear so that explains why the Laura'a Theme was played so much in the movie. All the tracks are great memory jerkers of the various scenes in the movie..they don't make them like that anymore. I would love for a resurrection of David Lean's genius to know where to go, who to hire and what emotion/situation should be used for each chapter in a book! There will never be anything like this movie produced again, just like "Lawrence of Arabia" starring Peter O'Toole, another great that has passed onto green pastures.

We bought this CD to replace the old vinyl LP soundtrack record we had from 50 years ago when the movie came out. We don't have a phonograph player anymore, and we enjoyed the music so much from watching the DVD, wanted to get something just for the music. Figured it would be a repeat of the old LP but it was better, had more music, more cuts.

Like most movie soundtracks, the Zhivago CD lacks something without the movie, still it's wonderful music... reminiscent of the epic motion pictures of the past. My only hestitation in granting this 5-stars is the unexpected variations of Lara's Theme that come out of nowhere at the end. There's the Jazz, Rock and Swing versions. Seriously? This, I admite, is a matter of personal taste (not mine, but perhaps yours), and ultimately does not detract from the wonderful music preceeding. Nevertheless I found it a strange way to end an otherwise exemplary soundtrack.

I wanted this CD because of "Lara's Theme" and those beautiful sounding balalaikas. Oh, man! What else can I say? This entire soundtrack is so fitting to the movie, so recognizable but never tiring. And the surprise bonus of having "Lara's Theme" played in versions of jazz, rock 'n roll and swing is icing on a delicious cake. Fabulous!

This CD arrived much sooner from supplier than expected, much to my delight.This movie is one of my all time favourites. I have the DVD & this soundtrack just adds to the pleasure.Need I say anymore.PS - I have never had a problem with Amazon.ca & made many purchases.I once purchased a used DVD from one of their suppliers that was defective. The issue was handled pronto & I got a full refund.

Enjoyable music from Dr. Zhivago of long ago.Thankfully much shorter than the film (3 hours, UGH).

Growing up, this LP would play most every Sunday. Once older, I actually sat down and watch the DAVID LEAN movie. That's when I discovered Maurice Jarre as a composer. And, I've enjoyed his scores ever since.
