Your cans of chowder mentions adding butter & milk or cream to desired consistency. Do you have a recommended amount of milk or cream to start with?

I add a half a can of milk--but for richer flavor I will occasionally add cream! Delicious soup!

How many types are there?

For clam chowder there are 2 New England and Manhattan. New England had a dairy base (white) Manhattan is a tomato base (red).

How is clam before potato on label when more potato in can? (NE clam chwdr more like potato soup, but still best healthyish option I've seen.)

I use this soup a lot. The proportions of potato to clam is not out of the ordinary. There is a lot of variation to this in New England and for a commercial soup this one is pretty good.
